Thats 500Gbps local bandwidth. It's not nearly as important as the international bandwidth - that's the really important figure to guarantee. Does anyone know a figure??

The broadcast partners will install satellite dishes for transmitting the matches to the different countries.

I assume they will have some kind of live broadcasting, probably in HD to the rest of the word, which might even include multiple sound streams? Maybe even multiple HD broadcasts?

Sentech will supply each of the 10 World Cup stadiums, located in 9 different cities, with a satellite backup network. Apart from the satellite backup for each stadium, the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) will have four satellite dishes to serve its personal backup needs. As there are a maximum of four concurrent games played at any time this is considered adequate.

Does Sentech's involvement make anyone else nervous? I thought they were supposed to be concentrating on the digital TV rollout. I'm having major doubts about Sentech making their deadlines for DTT coverage:
56% in 2008
78% in 2009
92% in 2010
(http://www.dvb.org/about_dvb/dvb_worldwide/south_africa/index.xml)

I am well within the region covered by this map:
http://www.sadiba.co.za/pages/home/dtt_coverage_2001.html
and I am not getting a signal here so that 12% coverage given there is a joke.
(towards bottom of http://www.sadiba.co.za/pages/home/sa_status.html)

I'd like to see them make the analog switch-off date of Nov. 1 2011 with no government funding. Another doughnut, Ivy?

Personally I feel the stadiums should have considerably more than that, so that we can at least show we have the capability.
But at the same time, it mustn't interefere with the Internet in this country in any discernable way.

i heard that each stadium needs 40Gbs, but what is concerning is that they (gov, telkom etc) cant even sort out local issues what make them suddenly get it right by 2010?

I can just see it now - they'll be capped by the first add break.

Questions for Ivy:

1. Did you understand what they mean by 500 Gbps second (that’s to Europe Ivy, not just inside SA)

2. Are you gonna give them a 3 gig cap on the 500Gbps, Ivy

3. Are you gonna use the Cantenna Ivy, I know its South African , but it wont push 500Gpbs to Europe

4. What kickback do you get from Telkom, Ivy.

The cost issue certainly leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The consumer is set to get screwed again and again and ...
