This is exactly the same mentality as forcing the "petrol jockey" on us. There is absolutely no value add. The poor taxpayer is expected to pay salaries for "non-jobs". This didn't grow the economy. It's like putting band-aid on someone suffering from a heart attack...

It sounds like a nice idea, but is fundamentally misguided. The roads administered by Sanral are mostly in areas that have minimal population, while roads in urban areas are not the responsibility of central government.

Forget it... South Africans do not like "labour-intensive". There will be so many labour strikes, these roads will never be built, chaged or repaired in our lifetimes.

When labour will be hired from the local communities, it will incentivise them to either be on a go-slow with construction or purposefully damage the road for future rehire, similarly to what happens when govt schools are vandalised in the rural areas.
