Pedestrians are the issue.
Just take the R300 Cape Town as an example. The Government has spent millions erecting pedestrian bridges over the highway, but you still get dumb cunts trying to cross the highway between the cars.

In most cases its not the car fault but the pedestrian.

Fine Jaywalking. We dont have this in South Africa but we should. There may be a pedestrian crossing 10 metres along but people cross where they want.

Together with that make it illegal to cross the freeway. Go near Richwood on the N7 in Cape Town. See how many just walk across the freeway even at night. It should carry an even bigger fine.

Then take away the pedestrian's right to claim from the RAF. Do you know that lately its becoming a trend to jump infront of a car then claim from the RAF for millions in damages. As crazy as it seems, its true.

Dropping the speed limit wont make a difference if people cant abide by the law anyway. You will punish those that follow the law while those that dont would still do the same.

But fines for Jaywalking. That will stop it completely.

The cops are too scared of the taxis. If they put in proper stops along the road it will work and then fine those that dont.

They can make any rule change they want. Taxis will still not follow the rules. Even add the death penalty - No change. The cops don't take on the taxis.
You know, the taxis drive like they own the roads, all for 2 seconds, not stopping at the traffic light, "kruiping" at the traffic light, drives on your nerves just to turn off at the next intersection. 30km/h rules will help in some areas, but will not apply in other areas.

We actually do have fines for Jaywalking, same as we have fines for these, but you think the officers know this? You think most South Africans know them?
  • Ignoring pedestrian priority signs and not yielding – R500 to R2,000
  • Failing to yield at a circle – R1,000
  • Ignoring ‘keep left/right’ and other directive signs – R500
  • Failing to vacate right lane of freeway upon signal of other vehicle wanting to pass – R500
  • Failing to indicate – R300
  • More than one motor cycle overtaking a vehicle at the same time – R500
  • Doing a ‘wheelie’ on a motorcycle – R700
  • Making excessive noise due to methods of handling a vehicle (revving, etc) – R500
  • Hooting unnecessarily – R300
  • Causing wheel of vehicle to drag/spin on surface of roadway – R1,500
  • Pedestrians not crossing the road when it’s safe – R300
  • Pedestrians loitering on crossing – R300
  • Pedestrians who do not walk in the road facing oncoming traffic when there are no sidewalks – R200.
You know how many people argue with me about the last part? I mean this was drilled into me at school yet people don't seem to know it.

Well with retards parking on the sidewalk, cyclists using it as well zooming past you, runners, vagrants and beggars you're basically forced to walk in the road.

The fine for Jaywalking in Australia is $220. If you do oppose it and go to court it can increase to $2200 (for wasting the court's time).

Singapore charges $50 for the first offence and subsequent offences can go upto $1000 and 3 months in jail.

Yup though you shouldn't have trucks doing 60 in the second lane or 80 in the 3rd lane, once they've passed they should move back. But driving to Samrand last week showed me this isn't the way it goes.
I ended up remaining at 120 by weaving as it was the only way.
I've driven the highway to Joburg from Centurion the other day, was annoyed to find that the far right lane is occupied with 80 km/h snailpacers. Flashing them with brights does not help. I really wished I can get some flashing bluelights to force them out of the way.

I have to say the best is cyclists. When they are cycling on the road 2-3 next to each other and not single file.

I have given up this discussion, people still call some lanes as the "Fast lane or slow lane".

In Joburg you are better off keeping right and overtaking left

Lets hike up pedestrian fines and paint more zebra crossings.

It should be a steady set of income.
