Government plans to allow driver's licence, passport and ID renewals at the Post Office

SAPO is incompetent for the most part and bankrupt, giving SAPO more things that it will not be able to do is like pouring petrol onto a fire.

First sort out the existing problems at SAPO, for instance when you get the the front of a very long queue at the local Post Office and are told that the computers have suddenly developed a down syndrome.
TPEBTSATK.
Technical term.

the problem exists between the screen and the keyboard

All the post offices offering this service will be equipped to do eye tests and take one's biometric data?

Tender Bonanza coming
Of course and a slew of people in the parking lot offering services that people will only discover are illegal once they get inside...

But actually I have been renewing my vehicle license at the post office for years so would welcome this service.

Home Affairs will not become redundant! There are lots of things people go to do there apart fron ID applications! What about birth registration, change of surname, application for citizenship etc.

Same post office that can hardly handle licence renewals

This is good. But when they say, plan to, you got to worry.
Well at least they're talking about it.. ( note the sarcasm).. But that's all they do is talk talk talk ad nauseum.
For goodmess sake just fix the home affairs.

And the lady with 3 phones and a 1.5 million Ront Merc who does late registrations of births.....for R5000 per pop.

Most post offices are simply too small to offer these services. Drivers licence renewals require optometric testing, and lots of space for people queuing. ID's and passports require those special booths that you sit in to take your biometric photo, plus, again, lots of space for people to queue. On top of that they also have to do their normal postal services as well. Where are all the staff going to come from to do this?

The idea is great, but maybe they should actually hire people at the post office who can work.

I've been in post-offices and seen;

1. The lady serving people eating her chicken with her hands and turning EVERY paper into an oily mess.
2. A guy sleeping in his chair in front of everyone behind he counter.
3. My recent favorite - a family friend went to the post office and asked for some stamps and the lady said she doesn't know what a stamp is. This, AFTER they described the square thing you stick on the envelope to post it.

So yeah, maybe before we make this a solution with an even bigger problem, they should just give the contracts to the Banks and their branches and close the post -office with their useless staff.
