Ex cit. What, really? They think that they can bully Netflix? English is the 1st language in the real world. Not some tribal language. You can't make up stuff like this. LMAO.

I have a fairly easy solution for Netflix that can make them comply.

Put parliamentary TV up, and break every 10 seconds up into a single episode.

That should cover the required numbers.

All Netflix/Amazon/Disney + need to do, is add a content filter that kills allocal content as dedired. Activate killswitch on local content and never even know it exists. Everyone happy.

So how do you measure 30% local content? Every time three new hollywood/bollywood movies are added, then one local movie must be added. Hmmm, fantastic plan. As always, the ANC thinks once it has made a policy then their job is done, no management, no control, just chaos. 'Why? because we said so...'

Another bit of stupid from ANC...coming next Liquor stores to stock 30% vegetables and fruit...pity if only the ANC were 30% vegetables, things could be a lot better, methinks

here we go again with the nonsense that the ANC begins to cook up,

what next? all Windows PC's sold in SA must have African language installed by Defualt?

This is not an ANC idea it's the same in Europe

yes, in Italian or French,

what will we have in SA,
E-windows 99, sesfikile edition?

you saying in someplace like Zim or Malawi
the government dictates the Default install language should be whatever the local Dialect is?

how retarded is that? so if you order a Phone as the install language isnt Zulu you go to jail?

I mean Europe has Brains at least, not forcing people to use a language they dont actually speak.

Uhm Xhosa, zulu and Afrikaans are the three most widely spoken languages in this country just because you don't speak it does not mean content in that language is not needed.

The point of streaming services is to watch what you want. If like Europe we decide that content should be made for local people that is perfectly acceptable.

And remember it's mandated that content needs to be European so why do you have different rules

The numbnut can't even answer his question why she thinks it's necessary and instead want him to prove why it's not, LOL. You know what, I say let them. The only ones who'd have to comply are local services like Showmax. Way to go to flush this country further down the toilet.

So it's just like the pass mark? 30%.
Funny how everything keeps coming back to 30%.
30% black...
30% tax shortfall...
They seem to be setting a really low bar, LOL.

Do people who make these rules every think things through?

If there are 100 SA movies in existence, and Netflix buys the rights to all 100, then Netflix can only ever have 200 Hollywood movies. As soon as they make it 201 Hollywood movies, the SA quota drops below 30%.

Given that there are hundreds of thousands of movies from all over the world, limiting Netflix's catalogue to just 300 because you can only supply 100 movies is plain stupid.
Maths fail. 30% isn't one third.

You're not taking the intricacies into account.

Netflix would either have to lower the amount of international content available in order to increase the percentage of local crap, which sucks for the consumer, or they would have to buy SABC's archives.

Personally I don't care what is available on the platform as long as they give me the option to filter out content I'm not interested in.

I for one, welcome the Kurt Darren and 7de Laan.

Create proper local content and Netflix will have no problem showing it. Problem is, the content you **** out is so pathetic, no sane person wants to pay to watch it, **** people don't even want to watch it when it's free.

No intricacies people only hate this because it's not their language nothing else.

Everywhere in the world does this no one cares, South Africa does it it's dumb?

Please let's be honest if it was the government they liked they would be all for it.

It's faux outrage.

Let me point out:
The demographic this is aimed at isn't the demographic the shows are geared at. Explain why it should be forced on them.
Even those who's language it is don't want to watch the crap they dish out, or they'll subscribe to Dstv which does show it.
The European demographic are Europeans so it makes sense to require European content.

As usual SA is doing things backwards. The majority's stuff is being forced on the minority. Just like BEE is "protecting" the majority from the minority.

Also don't see how it can be "faux" outrage. Faux means not real. So you're implying people are not really upset but pretending to be for some inexplicable reason.

Dumb as fukk as it is, they will carry on down this road if they can.

The upside is that one still gets to choose on streaming services what to watch and what not, so the ‘ignore’ list just gets a bit longer.
