Netflix should just create a South Africa section and load thousands of locally made 3hr episodes of different shades of paint drying. Voila! 30% local content.

With the sheer amount of content on Netflix, this a limited number of ways this stupidity can play out:
1. Reduce the SA catalog significantly, so it's easier to reach 30%
2. Withdraw from SA
Since option 1 will likely cause mass cancelation, what's the point. They will ultimately go for option 2.
VPN it
Nah they'll just cutback on content drastically, they'll just not buy 3rd party licenses for content for the African market and cycle Netflix exclusives in and out of their catalogue and if imagine they'll purchase rights to old South African shows for dirt cheap from the SABCExactly, Netflix doesn't have to do anything. They won't start buying local content so they can service out tiny subscriber base. Very likely, they'll withdraw the service locally if the numbers don't work out.
Honestly, it's embarrassing being a South African these days. Such a shame.
Yeah this is trueI hope to put in a filter to remove it from my content completely. Otherwise it just fills up your searches with nonsense.
The ANC government is selfish and corrupt they f-uped the states broadcaster now they want to involve the citizens by milking them with Netflix.Government reaffirms 30% Netflix local content quota
The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) has stressed the importance of imposing a 30% local content quota on Netflix and other international streaming services.
Could you perhaps give an example? Its not all dog crap that we have here.
netflix: "ok, we'll load 30 local items and cut their catalog down to 100 items in total"Still wouldn't even get to 5% of Netflix catalog.
This is incompetence par excellence.
