The government is developing legislation that will bar foreign nationals from operating in certain sectors of the economy, a key member of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s cabinet revealed this week.
Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola told a fundraising gala dinner hosted by the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation on Thursday night that his small business development counterpart, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, was developing legislation in relation to foreign nationals doing business in South Africa.

“(The minister) is also developing legislation in relation to foreign nationals doing business in our country - which sectors of the economy can they play in and where and how? That is the kind of legislation she is busy with and we are hoping that soon it will be released for public engagement,” Lamola said.

He said the reality was that foreign nationals were needed in certain sectors of the economy for it to grow.

“The legislation will also have to cover and be realistic to such kind of dynamics because we are not going to wake up and have a massive deportation of Zimbabweans, Mozambicans and Lesotho nationals,” Lamola said.

“We need to put in place legislation that will be able to set aside and strike a clear balance that will help us to still grow the economy for the benefit of everyone in South Africa, but still be able to say there are sectors that we need to regulate and be clearly stated that no foreign national can run this kind of a business”.

This works well in other countries too. Will be a good thing to get most international businesses, skills and experience out of South Africa, especially in certain sectors.

Lamola said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) had a vacancy rate of 20% and hadn’t been recruiting for the past five years.

“Everyone is now crying, asking why the NPA is not prosecuting people who have looted money (when) there is evidence all over. The skills have been hounded out of the NPA.”

I knew this for the past 14 or so years. No more skills in the NPA to investigate or prosecute more difficult crimes. Good to hear this from government themselves.

How about government regulate how foreign people enter the country and gain employment? They could be more lenient on certain skilled people that can contribute to the economy. They could even give each foreigner a little card or stamp that they stick in their passport to say that they’re in the country legally. This little card will be master of all activities of that person in the country, so they could call it a mastercard.

Or maybe a visa.

So is the cANCer party going to introduce legislation that will make it illegal for foreigners to sell drugs and will that mean that locals can take over that sector of the economy in Little Nigeria (Hillbrow)?

I get that other civilised nations do something similar to this to protect their home industries which is largely a good thing ... however .. why do I get a feeling that how this is really going to work in SA is that what is going happen is that this is just another way to prevent Whites from owning stuff?

Except when Trump does it and everyone bitches

Because there is a difference between good economic principles and racism. Trump wouldn't know an economic principle if it hogtied him and danced a jig on his chest.

Trump is not racist.

Trump is doing everything the ANC and their followers are doing. The ANC and their followers do not want whites and other African races in SA. Trump also protecting his country. But Trump is acting more legally in protecting their borders.

Goes to show the real racists.

You let them in deal with it.
"Open the borders to all African brothers"
"kill Nigerians, Malawians, Zimbabweans they steal our women and work."

You didn't read it properly - 'foreign BUSINESS" not 'Our African Brothers'.

Soos gewoonlik die ANC met hulle vingers in hulle poepholle. Should rather look at who gains entry into the country than discourage legitimate foreign investment. Not everyone that's documented is an asset to the country.
