History is about the whole past and not a selection of suited stories that are bolox and one sided

Love how they claim that racism and slavery has been downplayed...I am 100% sure that if you ask anyone globally about South Africa the 1st thing they will think of is apartheid. Either way, change what they want, they still show they are incapable of learning from historical mistakes and therefore, will always be 5 steps behind the rest of the world.

If I recall history had 2 portions. Half of the year was international history and the other half was South African history with a very large portion of that devoted to Apartheid and colonialism.

I don't feel slavery and racism were downplayed.

Further I don't feel that constantly focusing on the racism of the past helps in our aim of creating a non-racial society. "Hey guys, let's all live together as one, but remember how racist and awful whitey used to be!". (which let's face it is what this will end up being. I doubt anyone will mention that historically the slave trade survived not only because foreigners were prepared to buy slaves, but also because black folks were selling black folks to foreigners))

It's not constructive.

When I did history in the early to mid 90s, it was the early grades that had the voortrekkers, the Cecil John Rhodes stuff, the ANC stuff and so on, in high school it was international history and mostly the wars fought, it was great.

“If the Party could thrust its hand into the past and say of this or that event, it never happened—that, surely, was more terrifying than mere torture and death?
...But where did that knowledge exist? Only in his consciousness, which in any case must soon be annihilated...
'Who controls the past,' ran the Party slogan,'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.'

― George Orwell, 1984

SAs new history book... black panther comics bound together, with a 'then white people came and stole all the dignities' page added to the end

Indeed. Which it's been for a while.
People absolutely need both/all sides of the story though

Should be a very short curriculum. Teachers will be happy. Could run through it in 2 days. Don't see why the 'new history' handbook should be longer than 5 pages - index, foreword and cover included.

History and business studies should be compulsory.

History to teach you how to have a victimhood complex and business studies to teach you how to monetize it.

By the time these books are actually delivered to school, a lot of new history would have happened anyway....
