I suspect the government smells blood in the water...

However, let me rather say I am "optimistically cautious"...

But still... WOOO WOOO WOOO WOOO WOOO (you guys totally need a woohoo smiley)

Looks interesting - but will only believe it when it happens.

As it stands there is still only one infrastructure provider. If VANS can't self provide, they still have to use telkom networks, no?

Great news! But with the minister 'the end of the year' can mean anything.

Don't get your hopes up, althought this is certainly a step in the right direction on the road to recon-'silly'-ation. No news is'nt always good news.

The real question is .... unbundled for who to access. Is it just for PSTN license holders like the SNO or also for VANs?

If its just for the SNO then the goverment is just stating the obvious ... there would be no business case for the SNO without access to last mile copper.

blah blah blah.. that's all I hear when government opens its fat-cat mouth these days.. all this talk and no action.. that's all it's ever going to be - just talk.

Does anyone honestly believe that this government will reduce the effectiveness of its biggest cash cow?! Fat bloody chance.

I'm actually getting sick of these sweeping, unqualified statements made by clueless public officials. All this is is hot air laced with a few buzz words to placate the critics for another month more.

Thus far, not one of these dumb clowns have actually put their cards on the table by committing to a deadline by which changes need to be implemented.
Even ICASA's self-set deadline for draft ADSL regulations was really just a fictious smokescreen to get us to lay off them for a while.

What is so convenient for these punks is that their statements are also completely unqualified.
LLU for only the SNO's use (as the article seems to indicate) is essentially useless as far as real competion goes.
Its the equivalent of how Vodacom allowed Cell C to piggy-back off VC infrastructure when Cell C entered the market - prices didn't fall did they?

And don't even get me started on that snake of a communications minister.
She has an established track record of being "misunderstood" when making "policy directives" that appear to be clear and simple - at least as far as what she has actually said. Ivy is the single biggest reason for our telecommunications nightmare.
That cow wouldn't recognise a PC if it fell on her head, let alone a broadband connection.

Until the DoC gets a minister that knows what the hell is going on, we are doomed to getting our hopes up on the false nonsense spouted from the forked tongues of public officials corrupted by fat Telkom dividends.

Hey, Easy up on ICASA there, lewstherin. They did promise 'early' September. So thats about now. I'll agree with you if it's not out by the 15th September. But here's hoping.

Personally, I can't believe this thread is so quiet. This is something the users of MyADSL have been waiting to hear *anything* about for so long.

The typical 250x "OH NOES TELKODEMONOPOLYSTEVEWHITELIESPOISONIVY ARE TOO EV1L!!! IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!" responses are to be expected, but surely the fact that this is actually being discussed publically is a Good Thing(TM).

I really hope all this Celemasiko stuff and the recent bickering hasn't damaged this forum irreparably.
