Government wants to create a power utility separate to Eskom

Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe has said that the government wants to create a new power generation utility “outside of Eskom.”

The comments came at the opening address of the Mining Indaba in Cape Town on Monday.

Mantashe said Government plans to seek investors for the creation of a separate generation company as a “security measure.”

Basically a poor attempt at turning it off and on again.

When one oink-factory doesn't produce enough gravy.

Or, Zuma is missioning for the kickbacks on nuclear again.

Either way, WTAF!? Fix what you broke in Eskom first you asswipes.

The Minister further said that the government is considering allowing mining companies to generate electricity for their own use.

“You will not need a license for that, you will just need to register and you run ahead,” Mantashe stated.
More doublespeak. If you don't need a licence then why do you need to register for anything? That's basically just a licence by another name.

Let me guess, Luthuli house will be it's chief shareholder or supplier and the PIC and development bank will be coughing up the mega-billions to get it started? No thanks. It's simply going to be just another opportunity for the criminal cadre cartel to rape the taxpayer.

Might as well just print more money and give it to Eskom.

Yeah, but this will be so much more efficient as the money can go straight into the coffers of whatever new half-baked "empowerment" structure they come up with without having to go to the pretence of making it look like an Eskom business deal.

So with investors its a kind of privatisation then? Who would give millions of $$$ to a government that has proven it cannot run an enterprise and not allow these investors a say in how this new enterprise would be managed and run.

Yes, it looks to me like some partnership between private investors and government, something like Telkom.

This is actually a good thing.

Sell off Eskom 1, let it provide electricity to those who pay.

Build an Eskom 2, let it supply places like Soweto and others who don't pay. You will have to load shed them then if you run out of money due to corruption :D Us using a private Eskom 1 will just smile and wave... smile and wave...
