undercooked by 90 tons, fcukit. This really stood out for me - The SAA flight to Brussels was initially barred from take-off by Sacaa on grounds that the airline’s pilots hadn’t clocked up the required number of flying hours, or maintained their training because SAA has been grounded. There were also concerns about whether SAA was conducting regular maintenance of its aircraft fleet while it was grounded.

Seems to be a problem on the A340 software interface, and not picked up by pre-flight checks. A notorious previous incident makes for scary reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emirates_Flight_407

Edit: http://avherald.com/h?article=416c9997
The ATSB released their final report concluding the factors causing the accident were:
Contributing safety factors
- The first officer inadvertently entered the incorrect take-off weight into the electronic flight bag to calculate the take-off performance parameters for the flight.
- The captain was distracted while checking the take-off performance figures in the electronic flight bag, which resulted in him not detecting the incorrect take-off weight.
- During the pre-departure phase, the flight crew did not complete all of the tasks in the standard operating procedures, which contributed to them not detecting the error.
- When conducting the loadsheet confirmation procedure, the first officer called out 362.9 tonnes as the FLEX take-off weight, rather than the 262.9 tonnes that was recorded on the master flight plan, which removed an opportunity for the captain to detect the error.

Honestly I dont have a problem with the flight to pick up vaccines if it even saved one life.

How much billions was swindled by Zuma? Did it even save one life or is Gupta castle in Dubai all that was bought. And upto now not one crook arrested.

Perhaps send the plane to fetch some more. Anything it can find. Because even if it saves another life...its worth it.

Oh people are dying and we sold off 1 million vaccines that couldve saved many other lives. Thats worse.

Airbus issued a SOP workaround for the known issue so it appears as though the crew either:

- didn't follow the SOP
- genuinely made a calculation error

Both of those scenarios are consistent with a crew who had minimal flight hours and training during the preceding months, or who were mustered at short notice and distracted while operating under pressure.

Similar to the Pakistan crash after months of lockdown: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan_International_Airlines_Flight_8303

By the grace of God, it [the aircraft] limped into the air. When the crew started retracting the flaps it went into alpha-floor,” said the knowledgeable aviation source on condition of anonimity.

It wasn't God. It was the engineers that designed the control systems for that aircraft who deliberately made sure their aircraft could be operated by fcukwits like the typical SAA pilot whose only qualification is their skin colour.

Maybe SAA can put some of these stickers on the controls of their jet.

Incident: SAA A346 at Johannesburg on Feb 25th 2021, Alpha Floor Activation on departure

According to information The Aviation Herald received, the crew denied the occurrence and even stated: " The aircraft lied!". The crew also refused to participate in a meeting on Mar 16th 2021 intended to discuss the occurrence.

Sources tell The Aviation Herald that on departure from Brussels' runway 25R on Feb 26th 2021 at 19:00L (18:00Z) the aircraft accelerated reaching more than 200 knots over ground at less than 1500 feet AGL and thus did not adhere to the noise-abatement procedures at Brussels Airport.

Slick, disciplined and well trained cadres; just some 90t not noticed as missing (although this has happened before back in the day). Let me speculate; people you wouldn't even let launch a paper plan have a big party on S&T money the night before. Only a matter of time before one goes down it seems.

That accident report was from an event several years ago. I quoted it for context on what can go wrong. We have few details on what actually happened.

This is where we are now. Happy IF R5 million of our tax money was wasted to save a single life. Because money grows on trees and there is only 3 people in the country.
