Government's plan to force everyone with a smartphone or tablet to pay a TV licence

Communications Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams has doubled down on the government’s plan to charge people with computers, smartphones, and tablets TV licence fees.

This was part of a response from Ndabeni-Abrahams to a question from the DA deputy chief whip in the National Assembly, Michael Waters.

aaai --- seriously? wtf comes up with these ideas? this is the opposite side of the coin, ....when marketing comes up with a dumb racially insensitive idea and ploughs right ahead with it, due to lack of diversity in their mist....our government have some pretty dumb advisors.

The sole reason is because SABC must continue to waste even more money.

It is ludicrous that we pay for a service we don't use, if one can ask the SABC to remove the tuner in a TV thereby not pay a licensed fee, how can a license for a phone be justified? TV license must be made a tax, that's the only way it can have a chance at standing up to legal challenges.

Taxation is already applied > 1x on all these items from importation, local sales, on device purchases / VAT to local, International companies & lastly income tax >=2

If you are unable to succeed with that exorbitant & extortionary hand out....nothing will solve the issue as clearly fiat is not the issue & seems to be something else.

One can already pay the TV license on a monthly basis. So the monthly subscription argument is redundant.
A dealer can already check on the database whether someone has a TV license. So that isn't a problem either. More difficult would be that a license is per household. How does one check easily whether a person belongs to a licensed household?
