A lot of the petrol stations also sell diesel at discounted rates for limited times (e.g. weekends) or competes with the one down the road to offer a cheap price.
But that won't make a difference if fuel keeps rising. Yes , they compete with each other but they will just compete at a higher rate as the fuel climbs. And the logistic companies purchase directly from the fuel providers, so there is no room for price alteration.

There's some room as people get nice discounts on some reward programs.

Not enough and again, this won't help with food and the logistics of delivery. Those costs are passed on directly.

How much of your monthly expenses are food vs fuel? Mine is easily 4-1 or 5-1, so a 10% hike in food hurts more than a subsidised hike in fuel.

Another solution would be to do what the rest of the world does, stop being bloody lazy and fill our own tanks. But then it's the jobs, what about the jobs... In reality why do we have to keep holding the country back because of the jobs, I mean there is a packing person at shopping centers, their entire job is to pack your bags for you? WTF!!!
Filling your own tanks probably wouldn't make a huge difference:

They really don't have too much of an impact, plus fixed cost.

I hear they're thinking of using a subsidy to achieve this. Which means they'll probably put back some of the taxes and levies if they do.

If the gov change it to where they set a maximun price instead of a retail price, then this would help. Maybe not a lot, but it would help. Even if petrol was R5 a litre this would be better than them setting a retail price with no room for competetive pricing.

yep but they only want to action unleaded, not diesel, that's the issue.

LRP is mostly sold in poorer areas. You are less likely to find it in Sandton and Parktown but Soweto and Brakpan probably still sell LRP.
Yup... to keep the hoenderhokke going... i.e. cars that should have been destroyed more than 10 years ago, but are still on our roads, presenting a hazard to not only the occupants, but the other road users too.

Fix the economy and the exchange rate. That's half the problem of fuel price. The other half is from oil price going back up to 110$ after being stuck at 60$.
