GPRS in greater Jo'burg area down?

Since yesterday morning, I have not been able to get my GPRS connected at all. Various locations in the greater Jo'burg area, where it worked fine until now. I am using a k-jam. Anybody else experience the same thing?

Could it be that my settings have gotten corrupted? I have checked them, and they all appear fine to me, but maybe I am missing something. When I contact MTN support, they say they cannot help me with k-jam settings (they have them, they try and send them to me, but it always fails). Could somebody put them all down on the forum - I am happy to manually set them all.

Hi,

I have also been experiencing the same issue for well over a month now and had posted on your original thread regarding this. Dr Data has been helping me out but still no resolution.

Also using a k-jam and am in the Braamfontein area. Since discussing the issue with Dr Data I have tried three different devices and a new sim.

What is really strange is that it works as soon as I drive north through Randburg on my way home and while I am at home.

Please let me know if you find a resolution.

Interesting, could you tell me where in Randburg, and did it work there since yesterday? Around Cresta specifically Windsor East it worked perfectly until yesterday. Also worked so far in Robin Hills, but no more since yesterday. And then of course Jo'burg central I assume is the unresolved known issue.

Dr_Data, your input/assistance?

I drive home from Braamfontein via Blairgowrie/Delta park and then turn on to Hendrik Verwoerd - only once I have driven past mutlichoice am I usually able to connect to gprs and sync mail etc.

It's not always exactly at that location, but I need to be somewhere north of Republic drive in Randburg before the phone connects. I also tested in Rosebank on Tuesday and had the same problem. I seem to have this problem for anything up to a 10km radius around the city center. Very frustrating.

Morning,

The changes did not work. I am unable to connect to either of my APN's again.

Any chance you could let me in on what changes were made and what issues you have with the GPRS network?

Sporadic GPRS

Hi there,

Using my K-Jam, I find that in recent weeks I cannot use GPRS functionality in areas where it previously worked before.

Sandton (near McDonalds) as well as JHB CBD town doesn't work. Glenvista works.

A friend of mine working in the bedfordview area also is experiencing difficulties in connecting.

The MTN gprs settings can be found from still the leaf website. You download the cab file and install. However if it works perfectly in one area and not another, then this does not imply anything wrong with your gprs settings.

Also in EDGE areas, using my k-jam is painfully slow. I don't have stats, but its not merely my perception.

I wonder if this is purely a kjam related issue or is this gprs issue a more broader issue irrespective of phone?

I think a broader issue. I am hearing from all angles about MTN GPRS problems.

I had a couple of problems connecting to GPRS with my sony ericson phone in Randburg these couple of days. With my E620, i could connect to both 3G and EDGE without any problems. So i would assume there is some issue with GPRS.

Dr_Data, you have gone awfully quiet. Was it something we said? Or are you eagerly beavering away at resolving the GPRS issues?

Anything I can do to help - more testing, more locations, more phones?

Hi,

Do we have any feedback other than 'we are investigating' yet? What could possibly be wrong with the mtn gprs network that takes so long to resolve?
