For the last few days, I have not been able to get a GPRS connection in Jo'burg Central at all. I have tried various locations - around Carlton Centre, around Diamond Building, around Standard Bank premises. Anybody have a similar thing?

Hi

Just to confirm. What handset do you use?
Are you having problems on 3G or 2G?
Also PM me your number and current location. I will investigate.

Hi,

I've had this problem for well over a week now. No GPRS internet connection or mail synching in JHB and surrounds. Once I get into the Randburg and Northgate areas everything works properly again.

Can you help me out as well.
Thanks

Edit: I have a K-Jam

I use an i-mate k-jam. This does not have 3G or 2G nor EDGE. It displays a "G" icon, implying that it gets GPRS just fine - but when trying to connect, nada!

It worked reasonably well (on odd occasions would not connect) up until a week ago in the same locations that I tried over the last few days.

Trying it in Cresta area 30 minutes after trying it in town this morning, it worked perfectly (ie the setup of the phone is hunky dory). Also over the last few days, Cresta area works fine.

My number is 083 259-2725. Current location - Cresta area.

Ditto to everything andreasrothe said, I work in Braamfontein and get absolutely no GPRS data traffic while in the office. Driving home past multichoice the connection starts working fine. Will pm you my number.

Hope you can help.

Hi
Thanks for the info. I will investigate and feedback to you. Will the both of you be in the affected areas around 6pm? I will trace and see which site you logging on to and try and pin point the problem.
Let me know

Hi Taffy
Are you also using a K-Jam?
I think there are some issues with the K-Jam, but let me confirm. Can you also tell me if the both of you are using 3G Sims in these devices. How about other users around you? Can they connect if using other devices like handsets etc?

Regards

I'm in Marshalltown and my GPRS/EDGE/3G seems to work without issue

Yip, I posted something similar a couple weeks back and no-one could think of a solution. Also using an i-mate K-JAM. I'm in the Parktown area.

Sync works awesome on one side of the building, if I walk +/-50m to the other side, it will not sync at all. I can't pull up any web pages either.

Dr_Data, I do not use a 3G sims. I will be in the Jo'burg central area this afternoon from 13h45 to 15h00. Give me a ring or sms (0832592725) if u want me to test/connect.

Other users right next to me can connect, using other devices. Don't know anybody else with a k-jam to test their device in same location at same time.

How could the issue be with the k-jam, if it works fine in other locations? Excuse my ignorance, but surely this would indicate that all the settings, etc on the k-jam are correct (or else it would not work)? Is there some technical issue on the k-jam that cannot be set/modified/changed?

I do use a 3G sim as well as a K-JAM (I have recently reloaded the ROM to see if that might be the problem), there are other MTN subscribers that are able to access both our business and the internet APN.

I will be in the Braamfontein area until about 15h00 this afternoon if you need to test.

Happy to test next week. BUT, I did test it yesterday near Standard Bank Complex in Simmonds Street, and had no problem whatsoever with GPRS on my k-jam. That for over an hour!

Hopefully we can determine this seemingly on/off issue.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I havent had a propper GPRS connection on my P800 for a while now (on and off since 12 JAn 2007) in the Oaklands/Norwood/Waverley area... I reported it to coverage when it started and recently...and guess what?

NOBODY AT MTN BOTHERED TO EVEN CALL

But hell thats the service I expect to get from MTN. So I aquired myself a VIRGIN sim and its alot faster than MTN in that area, which was a shock at first , but hell, I am used to it now. Even the Kabelo at 1555 was shocked when I told him Virgin has better speeds...

Dont try and tell me its my phone coz anywhere else it works fine, with another networks sim it works fine. I tried YOUR sim in another phone and lo-and-behold... no connection...

Here is the reference number from coverage when I called them last:
0012850

I will be copying this post to hellopeter.com too. hopefully then something will be done.

Tested it on Friday between 9h30 and 12h00. Inside Absa buildings (where it worked a while ago), nada! Outside in street, no problem. :(

Dr-Data, when will you be able to test this week. I should be in J'burg Central on and off.
