Hi

I hope someone can help me because Vodacom cannot and I am getting fed up.

I have a Vodacom contract and am able to make, receive call, send mms, and send sms. However, I cannot connect to the Internet (GPRS) on neither my phone nor my laptop using phone as modem. I have tried on two other phones and still, same problem. Phones I have tried Motorola V3x, 6680, and LG Choc. However, when other Vodacom subscribers put their SIM cards in my phones, they’re able to connect. So it’s definitely not a hardware problem. It is also not the SIM card because I went and had a SIM swap but alas, same errors.

When browsing directly on the phone the error is “packet data: authorisation failed”. Via laptop using phone as modem I get an “error 734”.

Vodacom have reset my profiles and say there is nothing on the network that should be giving me this problem.

Can anyone please help me here? Please!

Sounds like you need to call 155 using your Vodacom sim card and ask the data helpdesk to activate data on your sim card.

PS: Welcome to MyADSL :).

Dial 155 and ask them activate DATA on your sim. If this has been done then get a VM sim.

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

From what I understand, both your SIM and account/number/contract needs to be data activated.

data is enabled

All data services are loaded on my account. Again, there is nothing apparently wrong on my account. And 155 was a complete waste of time.

a friend of mine had the same problem on his phone (nokia n80). but the problem was sorted out when he received an sms from vodacom saying that data services had been activated on his sim card.

Maybe there is a mismatch between MSISDN & sim card serial number...?

I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM!!! I was beginning to think I was the only one!

I am using a 6680 (on top up contract) and get the “Packet data: authorisation failed” error. The same error occurs with the "vlive" and "internet.GPRS" APNs. It was working fine before, just stopped working on 12/09/2006

I have tried another sim in my phone and it works fine. When i try my sim in another phone, it doesnt work. I have enough credit (about R200). Data services are active on my sim card.

I have logged three faults and each time I get a message from custome care saying that the service is working fine

I feel your pain akaginoza! Let me know if you get it fixed!

Phone 155 and tell them to delete and recreate the internet and vlive apn's on your number. Don't take no for an answer!

I suspect the system shows you as being provisioned for data on the billing systems but you're not actually provisioned on the network itself.

GPRS Network Problems

For the better part of this month there was virtually NO GPRS connectivity with my Vodafone HSDPA Data card.
Location: Garden Route, The Crags
Vodacom 155 tells me via SMS:
"We are aware of the network problems and are busy working on the problem. Kind regards, Vodacom Customer Care"

So, what is really going on with Vodacom ????

Some roads perhaps, but not the airwaves, they are water resitant. :)
By the way HSDPA in Plett works.
But it seems as soon as "someone" was working on the network nothing works afterwards.
I believe some new towers have been upgraded in the area, even to HSDPA (?), I just can't get them.........

Ask 155 to check on the main "switch" and not on icap.Ensure there is no handset barrings or data barrings. Use the APN " internet ". Do a modem test. If that works, then try putting in a modem initialisation string. Then try changing the CID to 2, or 3. Disable your antivirus.

Other than that , you just may have a dodgy sim, you should be using a 32k sim

Hope that helps

FINALLY my GPRS working again. Deleting and recreating the APNs sorted the problem out..

It took TWO whole weeks and countless calls to the Data-Can't-Helpdesk to get it fixed

At least you're up again, apologies for the delay.

Won't you PM me as much detail as you can, your SIM number, when you spoke to whom, etc.?

I'd like to use your case to check up where the process broke and do some training to the call desk. I suspect they gave up to quickly in the fault-finding process.

A bit like your sig...they could find nothing wrong, so did not try to fix it....
