Grace Mugabe escapes SA police, lands in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe's first lady Grace Mugabe returned to her homeland on Tuesday from South Africa after failing to turn herself over to the South African police to face charges of assault.

"Yes, she is back in the country. We don't know where this issue of assault charges is coming from," said a senior Zimbabwean government official, who declined to be named because they were not authorised to speak to the media.

Mugabe was due to appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon.

we do have the dirty spawn she produced.
the fact that anyone enters into any form of lease / accommodation agreement with this repugnant family is galling

Did any of you really think that a first lady of the most highly regarded president of all time in Africa for his outstanding work in kicking out the colonists....would face prosecution did they?

I very much doubt anyone leases to the Mugabe family directly... It will be to a holding company within multiple shells.

BREAKING: Grace Mugabe still in SA - as Robert comes to the rescue

“She (Grace) is still in South Africa. She had been told to wait until President Mugabe arrives in South Africa where he is scheduled to attend this week’s Sadc summit. It really wouldn’t have made sense for her to flee to Zimbabwe yet President Mugabe is travelling to South Africa. The president (Mugabe) will attend to the matter as soon as he arrives in South Africa,” a reliable source close to the Mugabe family told African Independent.

The lawyers have advised Grace to abide by due process. Their calculation is that she will appear before a magistrate, possibly today, plead guilty and pay a fine. That way, she will avoid being declared either a fugitive or persona non grata (prohibited foreigner

Folk it doesn't work that way
It goes like this arrest or surrender at nearest police station
Handcuffs aren't normally used
Suspect is now processed - fingerprints etc
Suspect will usually attend court the following morning
Station commander has discretion to release on police bail but in most cases men are detained
Especially in a month when the focus is on violence against women.
Suspect makes first appearance and bail proceedings usually begin if the now accused has representation
Magistrate will set bail provided senior prosecutor has no objection ( randburg doesn't according to media)
Bail may be subject to some or no conditions but generally accused is warned to keep away from victim and witnesses
Accused may be released on own recognizance
Next court date is set down for prosecutor to go through docket
Accused makes second appearance and bail conditions are amended or continued
Prosecutor will advise if he has finished getting statements etc and usually hasn't
Third court set down date
Bail continued or amended
Prosecutor may further post phone or announce he is ready to drop case or bring charges
Pleadings
Delays and postponements indefinitely etc

Yes, assault.

They will probably charge her on assault GBH, for which a first offender will normally get a fine and a suspended sentence. If it was common assault, then a warning would probably have been the sentence.
