I'm confused... The turkey's found bottom of an empty pool. Ok... But what actual cruelty was done, what actual harm was done to the Turkeys?

The issue about vandalism, sure, that should get attention, there's always that group of kids who want to 'leave' their mark out of disdain for the school, but seriously, I'm struggling to understand why all the focus in on turkeys, who, by the pics, look completely fine, not a scratch?

And htf is this news worthy?!?
Because the shitstain "pupils" would probably have just left them there to die if they were not discovered. Still confused?

They should not be allowed to write matric. These vile rodents can sit another year for all I care. Just more useless cretins that are of no use to society.
That describes 80% of teenagers.

Our prep school Headmaster closed his eyes when he swung. His blows ended up anywhere from the back of the knees to mid back.
I escaped the headmaster my whole high school career until that day. Mostly as he was deadly and used to soak his cane in water and test it by whipping it in the air before tattooing railway tracks on your ass.
Damn sadist but probably made a whole generation of us walk the straight and narrow.

Yes, the State calls the shots and pays all salaries but parents are allowed to supplement staff income. This is done by the school governing board who make the appointment and then pays any extra salary from the school account. This attracts the top teachers to that school.
Also, any enhancement to the school buildings by anyone belongs to the state.

I think the term semi-private is wrong as there is no private ownership of anything.
That is correct...all the changes made to the school come from fund raisers, benevolent ex-pupils, and the parents. Without that, Grey cannot do what they do as the DoE doesn't do much. They'd grab the glory, but they pay nothing for the upkeep.

Nope. Grey College is semi-private although it gets some funding from government. I'm pretty sure it's NOT run by government.
No. Read up the numerous court cases between Deon Scheepers and the Grey College Governing Body. The headmasters and teachers are government employees and the only one who can fire them is the Department of Education.

Yep. Model C - i.e. semi-private
There is no such thing as semi-private schools. All the Model C schools like Grey High and Grey College are state property. 100%. There is 0% private ownership. Semi-private is a common use term, not a legal one.

The SGB is allowed to supplement teacher's salary by charging fees but the teachers are hired and fired by the Department of Education.

Actually I have to disagree, the school I'm a gb member of owns the land. It's a trust that was created to create the school of special needs however government pays/runs certain posts although that is getting less and less every year as they cut funding.

And no, we do not supplement salaries. We have additional posts that are fully paid by the SGB. Fyi, the SGB in no way know the salaries or involved with the payroll of state posts.

Are you disagreeing with me that the state does not own the Greys? Show me the title deeds that prove its in private hands.

The situation you describe is catered for in the ACT. I was wrong in that the SGB can hire and fire SGB posts but not Department posts.

In the case of Scheepers he was provided a car and other perks such as accommodation by the SGB but they were not allowed to dismiss him.

Its great that you are a member of a SGB so you can highlight in which legal framework based on the Act where the term semi-private is used and its status as a legal entity in South Africa.
