BOY GUILTY ON ALL GRIEKWASTAD CHARGES

The 17-year-old boy accused of the Griekwastad triple farm murder was found guilty on all five charges in the Northern Cape High Court on Thursday.

Northern Cape farmer Deon Steenkamp, 44, his wife Christelle, 43, and daughter Marthella, 14, were shot dead on their farm Naauwhoek, near Griekwastad, on April 6, 2012.

The teenager was also found guilty on a charge of raping Marthella and defeating the ends of justice.

You don't have to know someone to be compassionate.

Never said that you have to. i was simply wondering why this case was so sad. Why not the Marikana shootings, or anyone of the child murder / rapes over the last month or two?

EDIT: I hope he gets an extremely long prison term....

And now what? Plea bargains?

I doubt the State will entertain any bargains at all seeing he has denied any responsibility and been a belligerent witness and a liar all along.
They will throw the book at him.

You know some of the people involved?

No.

The reason why I found this crime particularly upsetting (not that the other crimes are less revolting) is because it happened within a family. Those are the people closest to you that you trust with your life, quite literally.

Ages of one victim and the culprit?

Ah thank you. And I agree, family and friends are those who are suppose to keep you safe...

Ages of one victim and the culprit?

I agree with this as well.

I hope that he gets the maximum jail time that the court can give.

Missed almost everything today. So glad to see he was found guilty.

Just saw now that he was denied bail and will be held in custody until sentencing.

Reading all the tweets now from the court and I don't think Judge Kgomo will have any mercy on him. Good!

If an attacker(s) found/saw someone outside they could have immediately fled with fear police were on the way...

The police stuffed up the evidence, no usable fingerprints on anything? no footprint evidence recorded? unknown dna on the gun it is all very worrying. They were focusing too much on the story of a child too, any child going though that would have massive emotional damage and I doubt his thoughts or memories would be clear after such an event...

The thing about evidence if it isn't collected at the start there is no way to go back and recollect it.

If he is innocent, ontop of losing his family and then a fortune would be a massive miscarriage of justice. If he is guilty and there is no doubt to that then i am completely in favor of him getting dropped out of a 747 over a mine field.

It is just so weird, being that "rich" with a "loving" family and doing that, even with the rape motivation with a functional family that would have worked it out with the police and mental help. It does not help that they think the evidence could have come from something as trivial as horse riding on a farm..

The last sms to the mothers sister, i wonder what was in that?

Isn't he the son?
Or is that Rumour?

The accused is the son, yes.
He was 15 at the time, he is 17 now.
If you google news articles from April 2012 you will find his name.
He may not, by law, be identified because he is still a minor.

Did the boy ever say he saw the alleged attackers or mentioned what race the attackers were?

I only ask because the only other person who has confessed to these murders was that kooky AWB lady who is in prison.

If he said the attackers were white it would be quite interesting.

He tried to "pin" it to a farm hand, I however doubt the awb still has the power to order a hit... they would probably not send whites to do it and that would defeat the purpose of the plan.

This story reminds me of the brutality of this:

Death penalty please...

No, he said he never saw anybody else on the farm (excl farm workers) and didn't see any of the attackers.
