Well after trying to install ubuntu twice now, i keep getting grub 15 error and have absolutely NO idea how to use grub

I have 6 Drives in this pc, The third drive is the drive it needs to boot from (according to ubuntu /dev/sdc1) but i can't seem to find it, and when i try to open the drive in the live cd it doesn't let me in so i am a bit pissed to say the least.

Can someone please help me?

Disconnect all your other drives (just pull out the power cable of each drive) and install Ubuntu on the one that you want Ubuntu to boot from.

Once you got it working, run the software update immediately. (My Ubuntu 9.10 crashed almost straight after started Ubuntu 9.10 for the first time - not sure if it's my Asus notebook that was to be blamed.)

Once you've updated your Ubuntu 9.10, shut down, plug in the other drives one by one and restart. You can also plug in all the remaining drives at the same time, but I prefer to do it my way.

*Might also be that the hard drive is faulty. If it supports S.M.A.R.T, switch it on in the BIOS and check if you see any errors being listed by S.M.A.R.T at boot time.

i got grub to work eventually but 9.10 wouldn't start, it goes past the loading screen, then hangs at the little spinner for quite a while and eventually the screen just goes black.

I tried 10.04 beta, it just shows the spinner forever with nothing "seeming" to happen which is quite frustrating to say the least...

In a way i have lost faith in ubuntu, i can't actually understand how something can be soo buggy, i thought i will get rid of the problem of the samba not turning on at startup once installing anew but instead i have wasted 8 hours trying to get it installed. I never expected ubuntu to be easy but i definately wasn't expecting to struggle like this either...

Strange. Other forumites are raving about Ubuntu 10.04 .... might be a hardware-specific problem.

Keep the faith! :)

Is it really hanging, or is it X that can't load? Have you tried ctrl-alt-F1 to see if you can get to a console? What you're describing sounds as though it could be faulty graphics card drivers.

Well trying to install 10.04 again, same story it just hangs after the language screen, with the little thing turning round and round, can't see any movement on the cd or HDD.

I even did a hardware test and it passed them so what could be wrong? or is it just plain ubuntu?

/ I installed ubuntu 9.04 but its shared doesn't install without major operations which is in the least irritating. so i really need to get either 10.04 or 9.10 working :/

Can't you just press "c" on the grub menu, bootup command line then select "repair install" and it should repair anything that is broken ?
