40?! I thought our 512 DSL was 10 times faster than 56K. So either Ghana only has 14kbps modems, or they're getting 2mbps DSL. I'd be very interested to find out details on the rollout.

Also be keen to drive a stake through the Telkom CEO's chest, but one step at a time...

From what I hear, a lot of folks would sell their mothers for an always on connection with no cap, even if it is slow. I mean, at the very least, 24/7 is convenient because you can check your mail any time.

from what i read on the site the home users can only log in at certain times on weekdays ...6pm - 8am and can log in any time over the weekend and or public holidays and can only get up to 128k connection.Also they get assigned dynamic IP addresses.
For what it is worth, this is equivalent to putting a cap on the service and allowing users to be logged in 24 hours!!!

well, for the home user I think it is reasonable... thats if you are not a download freak and wish to leave your connection on during the day and night 24 / 7!

Im wondering if the traffic is shaped...

Two of my collgues have been to Accra, Ghana and said that their fixed telecoms network is up to s^^t - dropped calls, etc and because of this, their cellular network (SpaceFon) is a huge winner there because of is stability compared to the fixed line network. So it would be interesting to see how ADSL holds up there. If they want broadband, going wireless is going to be a better option.

From what I can tell, having the use of the phone on the line is an optional EGP20.00 (R20) a month.

Additional 4 IPs - EGP40 = R40.

No mention of a cap. Prices exclude 10% sales tax.
