So i tried to play in offline mode but the games crashes reporting a fatal error.I am so frusutrated by this experience, I have spent the last 3 hour trying to get the game to run.

Anyone had this problem?

Fatal Error....? It usually gives a code. Google that error it gives you. I had to log out of social club to get mine to run.

Linking of your accounts is done via the social club website - that is taking some heavy strain at the moment.

It is not required for off-line play at all. I just loaded a game and saved with my network cable plugged out. When the game is starting up, hit the HOME button. Then "sign in" with your user. It'll tell you that there is no connection, but you can still load and save your games now. Only thing that will not work, is your gamertag "achievements" might not be logged. Not sure how that will work.

I think that might work if you've had it working at least once because at the moment it says that there's 0 profiles available. If my network is disabled, it gives me an error stating that it could not connect that something to do with connecting through PPP before loading the game etc. Nothing about saving etc. So if I can get it to download my profile only once, I might be able to do everything offline after that :(

some benchies that a guy from another forum posted

With all this online activation crap etc etc. the game doesn't work. You don't have access to the online stuff seeing as you have to create an offline account to play the game and save your progress. so atm there is no multiplayer and no uploading your vids.

I don't know if it is just me but i have seen some other posts as well that say the game runs horrible

Here is the benchmark i ran:
Statistics
Average FPS: 18.08
Duration: 37.18 sec
CPU Usage: 98%
System memory usage: 94%
Video memory usage: 98%

I am sorry but how can you run an e7200 @ 2.5ghz with a 280? seems a waste to have bought a 280 if you ask me, they also say on the game that a tri core will run best meaning this game must use more than 2 cores where possible.

Well we need to gang up together and demand Rockstar release a patch to reduce the need for this online crap.

Well eye suc the guys at incredible or where ever people buy from should say that a dual core running a 280 on a 24" monitor is going to struggle.

Plus if you can afford a 280 why can you not afford a better cpu?

^^ those benches are scary.

less than 20 frame average with a 280 and a E7200, wonder what i'm gonna get with my 1GB 4870 and E6400...

One thing he forgot to mention was how much RAM he was using...

I get so p1ssed when games are overdone in the needed specs dept. Look at Crysis, people ended up hating it because of it's system demands.

Ele people forget that in order for big vga cards to run well they need good cpu's, so some people go spend like 4-5k on a good gpu forgetting about their slower cpu.

they SHOULD yes, but they wont. most of those guys don't have a friggin clue

one thing at a time i guess? :p

what really gets my goose is that the PC version is twice as big as the xbox version, looks a little better, but runs a lot worse. the xbox hardware is 3 to 4 years old! and the game ran fine on that

something here isn't lekker

Yea because the game was not made for pc, that is the problem.

Its a console game ported to pc and like many other titles its suffering with regards to performance because its a port.

Well, for one this game was not ported at all. Secondly, it does not even feel like a ported game. Clean nice graphics, running smooth. On my system I get 40+ FPS with the benchmark on:
Texture Medium
Render High
View Distance 25
Detail Distance 37
Vehicle Density 26
Shadow Density 3

It looks awesome with the above. I'm happy with how it looks. I think Rockstar future proofed this game... They might think about removing all this security DRM gemors though.

Also, people need to read this:
Most users using current PC hardware as of December 2008 are advised to use medium graphics settings. Higher settings are provided for future generations of PCs with higher specifications than are currently widely available.

Worth a read.

I haven't installed my game yet (still at work :(). But it seems like the offline activation is easier to do than the online activation. I could be wrong, I've just been reading up on the steps that you need to take for either method.

I have to go for the offline activation, which means I won't even be able to play this game when I get home, because I will need to come back to work once I have the UnlockRequest Code :) Thanks Rockst*r.

Online activation is a joke - Offline activation would mean Extra steps imo.
