Right, I've just had a solar geyser installed at home and it was sold to me with a 10 Year guarantee on the tank and the solar panels, and a 1 year guarantee on all the electrical components (thermostat and element).

I was quite happy with this concept until about 2 hours ago when one of their agents contacted me, and has now sent me a form that I have to sign and return to them that "validates" the 10 year guarantee.

The part of this guarantee validation is that I must accept that the guarantee is only valid if the unit is serviced by them every 2nd year, AND that I must pay them for this service each time.

I'm not necessarily against this concept, but to spring the cost part of it on me AFTER its been installed and I have forked over a stupid amount of cash just seems a bit otherwise to me. Also there is no indication of what a service ACTUALLY entails, and personally I can't seem it being much more than a clean since its all a sealed unit.

Anyone have a clue what the CPA might indicate in terms of attaching clauses like this to a guarantee?
