Port Elizabeth - The Kings, still without a win in the PRO14 this year, have been given a boost by securing the signing of Lions wing Anthony Volmink.
The HeraldLIVE website reported on Thursday that the 27-year-old speedster was due to arrive in Port Elizabeth shortly and that, while the deal had not yet been made official, terms had been agreed.
Volmink could feature in the November 26 clash against the defending champion Scarlets.
The Kings have found life tough in their first season of PRO14, losing all of their eight matches so far.
There was at least some encouragement this past weekend when they ran Ulster close at the Wolfson Stadium, eventually going down 36-43.
The two bonus points they picked up from that match were their first of the season.
Having made his Super Rugby debut for the Lions in 2012, Volmink's biggest claim to fame is scoring a record nine tries for the Golden Lions in their massive 161-3 win over the Limpopo Blue Bulls in 2013 Vodacom Cup.
Cape Town - Former Lions playmaker Jaco van der Walt has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with PRO14 outfit Edinburgh Rugby - just two days before their squad departs for the southern hemisphere for the first time.
The 23-year-old will join the squad before they set-off for Bloemfontein and will be available for selection for their game against the Cheetahs.
Van der Walt made his first-team debut for the Golden Lions in 2014 and has since gone on to make 33 appearances in the Currie Cup - scoring 147 points in the process.
He made his Super Rugby debut for the Lions in 2015 and made 22 appearances.
Van der Walt played a role in helping the Lions reach this year's Super Rugby final, where they eventually lost to 25-17 by the Crusaders at Ellis Park.
Earlier this month, Van der Walt was one of the 18 players released from his Lions contract for next season.
"Jaco is a skilful young player who is equally adept at stand-off or fullback. He's an excellent goal kicker and will provide cover in key areas for us," said Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill, as quoted by their website.
"We're delighted that he’s chosen to be part of what we're building here at Edinburgh."
The Cheetahs will host Edinburgh Rugby in Bloemfontein on Friday, November 24 at 19:30 SA time
Cape Town - The Cheetahs have announced the signing of giant lock JP du Preez.
The 23-year-old was signed from the Lions and is set to make an impression in the PRO14 due to his height.
He stands 2.09m - one centimetre taller than the tallest ever Springbok Andries Bekker.
Du Preez played one Super Rugby match for the Lions which made him the tallest player to ever play in the competition.
An article on SA Rugby's official website, which was posted in 2015, described Du Preez as "in all likelihood the tallest player ever to play rugby in South Africa".
The Cheetahs officially announced the deal on their Twitter page on Wednesday
