I had no idea eBay owned Gumtree. Kinda surprising considering the quality of Gumtree's website.

Kinda surprised by folks who may not know that Gumtree is owned by eBay. It is fairly well documented & is stated at the bottom of the site.

I just hope this new direction does not ruin the Gum experience.

How will this affect Sa Gumtree at all as we don't have a native Sa eBay?

Well we had.. not sure if we do still. ebay.co.za was filled with junk, mostly gems and jewellery for many years, together with some drop-shipped items. Never found anything worth buying.

I'm not sure that there is going to be any change.
I've already seen Ebay listings displayed on Gumtree - but not integrated with the rest of it.
Ebay is for local listings - I filter down to "Cape Town Northern Suburbs" so that I don't get all the greedy people and scammers from the south. :D
Company spam already erodes this.
Mixing in drop-shipped items like on BidOrBuy would make things worse.

Does this mean that more suppliers on E-Bay will now ship to SA?

Gumtree....tsek. I only use it if I have something to sell, which is not often.

Looking for something? Prepare to see one guy post his ad a million times, the same ad in a different region.
