South Africa announces switch-off date for analogue TV — 13 years late

Communications minister Mondli Gungubele has announced that South Africa will finally switch off analogue TV broadcasts on 31 December 2024.

He also announced an intermediate deadline of 31 July 2023, where all analogue TV services broadcasting on frequencies above 694 MHz must be switched off.

Probably a pack of lies, but let's come back to this one at the end of those dates and see if anything has happened.

So I have a question.

1. If we receive a tv signal we need a tv license.
2. They have given out STB to lots of people whether they have a tv license or not, as long as you dont earn much if anything at all as part of their social responsibility
3. If you earn more than a certain amount you have to BUY the STB yourself.

So my question is, do we need to pay for a tv license, because we dont have a STB to receive the signal, and dont have any intention to buy one, and they wont provide one to us, even if we did pay?

Surely we dont need a TV license then, or need to pay for one. Because you need a tv license if you receive a signal right.

Lol guess the lobbying from Naspers aka Multichoice worked. The recent losses would be further compounded by the digital switch. They need to beat position themselves perfectly I mean the sporting rights are also harder to lockdown nowadays.

e-toll will also be on that dateee
