So at 2am this morning I get a call from my fiance', she needs to see my urgently. So I get going, drive from Somerset West.

Anyway I leaver her place this morning at 6am, while travelling on the Main Road Strand *in pitch black* I change my gears and I hear a terrible grinding sound.

Needless to say my car refused to change gears. I of cause, had to get out and push my car to a side street.

Contacted Budget Road Side and within 90minutes I was dropped off at my Ford Dealership. Later on I get a call from Ford they need to remove the gearbox to analyse the problem.

They want to charge me R1850 just to remove the gearbox, I am like WTF but eventually out of desperation and no other choice I said fine do it.

Now I am waiting to hear if Ford Warrenty will pay for the cluch to be replaced as the KM on the clock is still low.

To add to it all, was supposed to write Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 exam today and of cause missed it completly:(

So at the moment I am using my Fiance's car.

hectic stuff, out of interest sake I had a clutch problem on my 2006 bantam, it was leaking fluid into the cab, im not sure what they did but it was replaced under warranty, and this was after about 6 months into getting it.

btw 2am in the morning, thats some serious brownie points right there!!

Was she in need?

Lets talk about the car rather. Bad luck bud. I had my fair share of car troubles lately and getting peed off now with it. Time to sell all excess baggage (Wife/kids) and invest in decent car.

I do tend to use my clutch instead of my handbrake. However only 45000km on the clock is insane to say the least.

Now I have to wait until Monday to find out exactly WTF is going on!

2007? It should still be under the 3 year warranty...

My 2000 Bantam had a complete gearbox failure before it even got to 6000km. Since I was only 19 at the time and the bakkie was still on my dads name they convinced him it was due to me driving abusively and I had to pay R7000 for all the repairs. Strangely the reconditioned unit they gave me lasted well over 90000km without any problems... Even more strangely it was also bought from Somerset-West Ford...

Bantam gearbox and clutch problems are very common.

Opel FTW.

315,000Km on my Opel Astra. I prefer to use my handbrake than to balance on the clutch :D

Now an update on the story!

After much negotiating with Ford. They agreed to fix everything for R3400.

I gave the go ahead on Tuesday. Receive an SMS today to state the Bantam is ready. They send a driver to pick me up from home. I go and pay. Drive my car home safely (shall I just add no reversing up until this point)

I get home, and after 20minutes I want to go and pickup my Finance' from work. To my utter disgust, I discover that my car REFUSES to go into reverse. The gear won't lock into the position.

Now I contact Ford, their first reaction is "the gear lock is causing the problem" my reply not possible since it worked fine before they ever touched the Bantam. They send out a mechanic to my house, who of cause can't fix it. They take the car back to Ford.

The mechanic also says its the gear lock, and it was because of the gear lock that the clutch gave out in the first place. My reply I am not an idiot and I want it FIXED!

So now the car is back at Ford and tomorrow shall see the outcome of everything. The worst service ever, I shall never buy a Ford again, only because that their service is worse than Telkoms/Neotels!

LOL sorry dude but I had to laugh as I thought you Bantam might have had an Alfa clutch LOL!!!

Ok, after they fix it, sell it for a 147...get an Alfa, at least when it breaks you won't feel bad as you knew it was going to happen! LOL - morral of the Story...NOT ONLY ALFA BREAKS!!!

Windows Exchange Server 2007...dude, 2008 is out, watkind? You don't have to write the test, just sit next to someone for a month to show youthe ropes, the best way to learn is in a disaster, let them simulate a server crash, build it from startup...that's how you 'll learn...still feel you need to get an Alfa...

Good luck!

Oh...I need to replace my Alfa's clutch for R3200 - agian, Alfa 1 Ford Bantam 0 lol just kidding dude, I KNOW how you feel...Alfa drivers have thick skin...so trade that bantam...trade it...

oh, the dude that said utility ftw..oh no...friend bought one BRAND new, a black one over a 100k with nothing but ABS lol...clutch also became PAP...he cought that disease before it broke they replaced the clutch for him no charge, this is a bakie with less than 2000k's...amazing!

i now alfa's is cool and all, but seriously, i wont stick to a brand that's prone to breaking down alot just cause i love the passion and all. No offense.

I had a renault megane 2 and it was a nice car with nice features but its crap quality. And its a shame that alfas are so unreliable because they do make beautiful cars. No disrespect alfaholic. Me personally will never advise anyone on getting an alfa.
