Hairdressing should be offered at a vocational school in my opinion. Office admin is already a course at TVET colleges.

Relax, they offer or used to offer home economics, woodwork, art and electronics at some of SA’s better schools. Trade schools severely limit your options when it comes to traditional subjects, why not offer some more hands on subjects to kids at traditional schools.

You don't think our Matric cert is already valueless, now to increase the pass rate, let's throw in a subject that 99.9% of employers care less about ?

Yes, we had woodwork and music and HE, but those were in addition to the subjects that needed passing for a matric cert.

Wtf, hairdressing ain’t easy when it comes to ladies hair especially and it’s pretty lucrative, what’s the problem?

Plumbing isn't easy either and it's very lucrative.

Shall we make that a matric subject as well ?

Lol 45 minutes of a teacher telling the students about a Philips hair cutter. Just get a Philips hair cutter and Philips oneblade and Bob's your uncle.

I am sure more people could use hairdressing to generate income after school, than people used woodwork in the old days.
Lots of people already do it and generate decent income. I wouldn't be surprised if the more established ones in the informal sector make upwards of 20k pm in profits.

Regarding woodwork and metalwork, I don't think it's a bad idea to introduced them.

When I was in matric in the '70s, there were three streams:

Higher Grade - For the academically inclined and those intending to go to university with 60% in all subjects considered a university exemption pass (No university entrance exam needed).

Standard Grade - For the less academically inclined and those intending to go to college or straight to a work environment.

Practical Grade - For those not academically inclined. Subjects such as hairdressing, cookery and other practical subjects to earn a living from were offered.

I'm not sure if this is a wind-up.

These two new subjects are in addition to these which already exist ?

These are the subjects that are to be added to the curriculum:

  1. Art and design.
  2. Agricultural studies
  3. Ancilliary healthcare
  4. Aquaponics
  5. Aviation studies
  6. Civil technology
  7. Consumer studies
  8. Electrical technology
  9. Hospitality studies
  10. Maritime sciences
  11. Maintenance and upholstery
  12. Mechanical technology
  13. Mining sciences
  14. Technical mathematics
  15. Personal care
  16. Technical sciences
  17. Wholesale and retail
  18. Early childhood development
  19. Digital technology

Aviation studies, in an academic school system ranked 75th out of 76 surveyed ?

Am I on candid camera ?

2. Geography - Brazil, capital Brasilia as in Brazilian?
3. Anatomy - nuff said.
4. Synonyms - for example, "This makes my cat itchy" .........

Nothing wrong with offering it. It'll count for schit towards a university entrance, but for those who don't have the aptitude for university and have no intention of going to one, it's better than nothing.

At least it'll get them spending less time on Tik Tok so they don't eventually end up on tik...
