Half life 2?

Hi, im having problems running HL2. The steam program just times out when trying to run HL2. It did manage to get through the steam update, but now it repeatedly just times out.

Is it something to do with port prioritisation? What about the fact I am near the northcliff tower? I can browse the net and download at a whopping 15 kB/s. I am waiting for an answer from WBS...

I am no expert at this, but 15kB/s!?!? And you are impressed by this?

To be honest, the Northcliff tower SUCKS BIG TIME! Too many people and too many problems!

You should be getting between 50 and 125kB/s! I use that tower too!

Secondly. HL2... Are you having problems installing it? If so, I had the same thing! In order to get it installed and updated, you MUST connect your UTD via your ethernet port and NOT USB! Don't ask why! USB kept on saying that I had an unstable connection the whole time...

Try and use your Ethernet port the whole time, your speeds should increase too!

Worked like a charm, THANKS!!

My download has also improved and now I can get around 55KB/s. When I try the same thing in rivonia I get over 100KB/s! Im moving to fourways soon, so I hope the tower there is better. Pity I cannot play online games though...

And how crap is that WBS support? Still no repsonse back from them. We pay a premium for broadband in this country, and they dont even bother with decent customer support to compensate.
