What a lovely govenment they have there... how they love their people so...
Jerusalem - Hamas police in Gaza seized thousands of blankets and food parcels meant for needy residents, a UN spokesperson said on Wednesday, threatening to fracture relations between the international agency that cares for most of Gaza's residents and the territory's militant rulers.

Hamas policemen forcibly broke into an aid warehouse in Gaza City on Tuesday evening and confiscated 3 500 blankets and over 4 000 food parcels, said Christopher Gunness, a spokesperson for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.

Gunness said the incident was "absolutely unacceptable".

He said police confiscated aid meant for 500 families after UN officials refused to voluntarily hand it over to the Hamas-run Ministry of Social Affairs. Similar UN aid packages had already been distributed to 70 000 residents over the past two weeks.

Ahmad Kurd, the Hamas Minister of Social Affairs, did not deny the seizure of the aid on Wednesday. He said the UN was giving the aid to local groups with ties to Hamas opponents

"UNRWA did not do what it said it would do, and began distributing its aid to groups that tie their activities to political activism," Kurd said.

Israeli officials have charged in the past that the militant group routinely confiscates aid meant for needy Gazans, but Gunness said this was the first time Hamas had seized its goods since taking control of the territory in 2007.

The UN agency provides food, education and health care services to more than half of Gaza's 1.4 million residents.

Hamas is under pressure to provide aid to Gazans, who are facing more hardship than ever since Israel's devastating three-week military offensive, which ended on January 18.

The operation, aimed at halting rocket fire from the territory, killed hundreds of civilians and left thousands destitute after their homes were damaged or destroyed.

Tensions between Hamas and the UN could make it difficult for the international agency to continue providing desperately needed services.

Some international donors had expressed concern that funds meant to rebuild Gaza could fall into Hamas' hands, and the UN had been trying to assuage those concerns.

The United Nations is expected to take a leading role in rebuilding Gaza, because Israel and the international community will not deal with Hamas.

Typical terrorists. Israel should have stopped only when Hamas was no longer. Now maybe the world will learn.

Well it shows that Hamas are just like ZANU-PF so is there any surprise that the ZA government supports the terrorism that happens in both countries?

UN halts aid into Gaza after 'Hamas theft'

Looks like the UN is getting wise to the Hamas scum.

UN halts aid into Gaza after 'Hamas theft'

Agency blames Islamist government for stealing thousands of tonnes of food

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees said today it has halted all aid shipments into the Gaza Strip after the Hamas government seized thousands of tonnes of food and other provisions.

The UN Relief and Works agency said it made the decision after Hamas personnel intercepted an aid shipment for the second time this week.

In a statement, the agency said 10 truckloads of flour and rice delivered into Gaza yesterday were taken away by trucks affiliated with the Hamas-run social affairs ministry. Earlier this week, Hamas police took away thousands of blankets and food parcels meant for needy residents.

The UN said the suspension would remain in effect until the aid is returned and the agency receives credible assurances from the Hamas government that such thefts will end. There was no immediate reaction from Hamas.

I'm no fan of theirs, but stealing food aid from the UN and distributing it seems way ahead of bombing the UN as the Israelis do, showing THEIR true colours.

And why would they need to steal it and "distribute it" when the UN themselves were distributing it?

Ja Ja Ja. It is necessary to flatten a city, leave thousands without food or housing and care, kill hundreds and all just to expose a radical enemy.

I'm sorry RMP but you are misinformed. The reason Israel attacked Hamas was to defend it citizens from thousands of rockets attacks. Also if they flatten a city with 1.5 million residence the death toll would have been much higher than 1300.

We have discussed this in detail in this thread

When I flatten your inheritance, such as a five hundred year old olive orchard, you respond by hating me and taking both our futures in your hands and no matter what, just to teach me. That is modern man! That is why there will never be peace there.....................
I am shocked.

I seem to be alone in thinking peace will prevail in the M.E

To fair there's been almost constant conflict around the world for thousands of years. Europe is good example. For centuries Empires fought throughout Europe. There was for example the 100 year war. In the first half of the 1900s tens of millions of people were killed due to war. Not even a decade ago there was genocide in the Balkans. The conflict in the M.E in context is not really that extreme and beyond salvation.

There will be peace eventually. However it may get far worse before it gets better

well the only difference between Isreal and SA is that SA got 32 million Palestinians,
the Jews and the Islamic have been fighting over the holy land for hundred of years, how many times have Jerusalem not been captured and recaptured? they will never settle and the best way for the Jewish Israel to sort them out of by proven a point, flatten hamas as harsh as it might sound,

Hi folks

Comments made in this thread did not come from me. We are investigating the issue now - no idea how the person got hold of my account.

Thanks for the RBP!
