Out of interest, why can't we get something like OnStar locally?
Wouldn't that be more useful here?

We do get systems like OnStar. A lot of premium manufacturers offer that as an optional service on their higher-end vehicles.

We're talking OBD scanners, and not high-end personal telecommunication assistant services here.

But doesn't OnStar offer vehicle telematic services like service reminders and other similar services, that you get now with this odb tool.

Hands-on with VW’s DataPlug and new app – Here's how it works

Volkswagen South Africa recently launched its WeConnect Go app and DataPlug – an add-on device which relays vehicle information from your car to your smartphone.

The app and plug were previously available with the T-Cross but now come standard with new VW models from the Polo Comfortline and above.

It can also be fitted as an optional add-on for most older VW models from 2008 onwards, with the exception of Vivo vehicles.
I contacted VW Barons on 4 November 2020 and they quoted me R5064.25 (inclusive and part only) for a data plug!!!! Now how did the price increase by ~R4000 in 3 months.
