The Stoned virus first appeared around 1989-1990 in New Zealand, and spread quickly to the rest of the world.

Wikipedia entry

When an infected computer started, there was a one in eight probability that the screen would declare:

Your PC is now Stoned!

The phrase is found in infected boot sectors of infected floppy disks and master boot records of infected hard disks along with the phrase "Legalise Marijuana".

I have had the joys of dealing with this virus at my first work - but luckily it was easy to clean up - boot from an uninfected DOS boot diskette, and run nostoned.exe to remove it safely.

It is now more than 21 years later, and today's viruses are more virulent than the first, original Stoned.
