I have a 6TB Western Digital Red NAS drive and it is only picking up as a 1.6tb
has anyone had a problem like this or a way to fix it.
Is there a way to reload the original firmware or reformat or partition the drive to its original size.

Is the hdd in the NAS? Or are you connecting it to a PC?

Some motherboards don't accept drives larger than 3TB in size.
Usually either a BIOS update or a new motherboard is required.

You need to make it a GPT volume, the reason its picking up as a smaller size is due to limitations in the partition system.

Was it on 'special' at your local Chinese store?
I bought it from a guy that assured me it was perfect working even had pics of hdd sentinel. but yes some ppl never learn.

busy with a low level format.

just dont understand how the drive is actually working. no noises from it
