Has anyone ever tried using a UTC on a Desktop?

Basically what the title says. Essentially by a PCMIA adapter for a desktop and plug the UTC into it. Could it possibly work?

PCMCIA Adapters for Desktops are scarse

I've also looked for such a solution, but the adapters for the desktops are very scarse. I couldn't find one in SA. Maybe after 6 months they'll have them, but back when I looked for them you couldn't get them. Also, according to a few technitians, it was a bit buggy, sometimes it didn't switch on with the desktop the first time, sometimes it switches off (loses power) during operation. Desided to go for the UTD rather.

Recently Bought a PCMCIA Carrier for my Desktop

I recently bought a PCI PCMCIA Carrier for my Desktop. Plugged in my UTC Modem and works just as well as on my laptop.

The card is quite cheap too.

www.miro.co.za also has pcmcia carriers.

Once drivers are installed it all works well ... just remember that the utc can cause BSOD on sleep/resume.

Yes I have done this, I have a old PCMCIA PCI bridge which I used for my megawan back in the day, this method works but is not ideal, You might want to look at ordering a pcmcia usb device off the net.

I was lucky to find a PCMICIA to PCI adapter in the first shop that I tried, especially since iBurst was all out of the UTD adapters at the time.

I have been using it since, and I have not noticed any difference between the performanse using the adapter, and using the UTC card directly in my notebook.
