I had a home invasion in Upstate New York a few months back where my son and elderly farm manager were held at gunpoint :mad: I went to town early one morning and they hit the place just after I left. Found my son running down the road towards town crying. The cops were on the ball though and had the first perp arrested a day later. Second perp is still on the run.
 
Yes, we just moved in and before the alarm was activated... how they get you to sign up to armed response...
 
Once. It was in Edinburgh in 1999 on a Sunday afternoon while we, in the most ironic turn of events, were at Murrayfield watching Scotland v SA in the World Cup.

True story.
 
This time of the year where people need to be more cautious. Happened a few years ago during December.

Yes, about 4 times. The last one was about 4 weeks ago. Came down the stairs and found the kunts climbing through the window.
 
Yes. Back in 2015. I had just won an iPad in a Mybb giveaway and the very next day, my house got broken into and it was stolen. Very very suspicious!

I had the same, stole my phone, quite spooky the next day thinking the guy was walking around me while I slept oblivious.

In the townships, never. In my current suburban home, they stole my gate battery, fsking up the motor completly. This was during load shedding, one of the reasons (tiny bit) of why I went solar, to have lights on all the time.

Often when you have asked people if they have actually had a break in, the answer is no.

If the question is - have you been affected by crime ?
I don't think I have ever met a single person who hasn't been affected by crime in SA.
 
Yup. We were on holiday and they (some madhir chod and his friends) forced open our gate, security gates and front door. They took TVs and jewelry. They were in and out in under 6 minutes. ADT arrived on the scene 15 minutes after the alarm was first triggered.

Had some dude break in to my childhood home in the Eastern Cape sometime in the 90s, my mother chased him away with a tennis racket. I was completely obvlivious this was happening at the time.

Later in life when I was living in Waterkloof had multiple break-ins and we were held up at gunpoint which was the final straw and moved out of that area to Lynnwood and then Villeria and never had issues there.

Moved to Cape Town around 2011. Had one incident in my first flat where some guy scaled up my balcony, I was sleeping in the lounge and heard him and when he saw me through the sliding door he almost kakked himself and threw himself off there like Sonic. So not technically a break-in :laugh:

Never had any incidents at my second flat and after two years in my house I haven't had anything except some opportunist steal a gate battery. Have since put cameras up and not had any trouble since.
