Update on GWM P-Series. According to the dealer principal at "unnamed dealership" - the Android Auto option on the infotainment option is not yet active and will only work after an update "coming soon". But Apple Carplay works already. Finding this extremely odd since ALL the SA press releases states both as working already, and the Australian reviews of the P-Series (Cannon) shows it as working on YouTube. I am receiving my vehicle by Friday latest to test it myself and dig in deep. Either the dealership doesn't know how to set it up - or the entire SA press have it wrong. Let's hope it is the former.
Reply from GWM South Africa below...

"Good Morning

Thank you for taking the time and sending me the below.

The update is due in Feb, it will be a quick upload to the system.

The dealer will notify the customer once update is available."

So this confirms there is an update needed to activate the Android Auto - coming in Feb 2021. Not too long from now then.

Will definitely disrupt the market if potential buyers stop looking at the "big names" and starting realising value. Everybody snubbed Kia and Hyundai at first - look where they are now.

By the way, love the red version of this bakkie - but it was the only colour that wasn't available without a waiting list. I wonder whether this was due to very little red versions being available, or whether all of them have been ordered already.

Red is a strange colour for a bakkie.

First few days with my GWM P-Series LT has been bliss. I fits snuggly in my garage, but easy to navigate with the 360 camera and park distance sensors.

I did not expect it to get so much attention in public. People walking up to look in public parking, or staring while driving by. Haha. Even met a couple who just bought one as well and parked a few spaces from me, we both agreed that it was an instant sell just by viewing the bakkie even before the test drive.

The biggest surprise is the voice commands. If you do not set it to "wake up" with a keyword, or the voice command button, it picks up phrases and then adjust things like the fan, volume or so on. It did cause a few laughs on the first day. But once I figured it out, it is an awesome feature to have!

Cannot comment on fuel usage as yet, but looking acceptable for town driving for a bakkie. Hitting the long road in a few days.

My dad, who has been driving bakkies (currently owning a Mitsubishi Triton) for most of his life is mightily impressed and says it easily rivals the Amarok for driving comfort.

If I understand correctly, there are a waiting list already, and rightly so. This bakkie deserves to sell!

I`ve got to say I like the look of the Havals however I dont know anything about their quality . I have seen a few GWM`s with low mileage and the interior has been degraded pretty quickly .

Most GWMs are cheap cars so the quality issues are expected, it's like an Etios, earlier Sandero or any other cheaply made car from any manufacturer.

Haval is a much premium brand that is affordable so slightly different to a regular GWM. There will be so many of them around soon looking at the trends.

While I would agree on most older GWM models, the new P-Series is definitely not "cheap". It doesn't look like a previous GWM bakkie, it doesn't drive like it, and certainly doesn't smell like it. No use of cheap materials in sight, and a keen eye can see the build quality of these new P-Series (whether commercial or passenger) is easily just as good as the established competitors.

Remember years back when Huawei phones were dismissed as Chinese knockoffs, but then they got so good that they were leaders in build quality, camera technology etc, and on their way to overtake all other manufacturers (before the US trade ban)... Well this is the same here... A few people are calling the GWM P-Series a 'Huawei moment " in the bakkie industry.

Yes, I was referring to the older models.
