The sales experience was not the greatest but I have had worse. After returning from our journey to the Free State I had to get a scuff plate at the back of the H2 replaced that was damaged and asked them to do a software update while at the dealership as it is something I have asked for on all my previous cars. After sales have been excellent thus far.

I have had none of the electrical issues highlighted above. Shifting to second gear can be a bit rough but once the car is warmed up the experience is a lot better.

The one thing I had to get use to is the protection built into the engine when it is still cold. Do not attempt to drive up a steep hill until the car is warmed up. It will not give you full power until that time.
Dodgy departure angle? How did you get it damaged?

I am starting to shop around and looked at the H2 1.5T, but with an avg consumption of 9.7L/100 km, no thanks.
Sold mine after a year and a bit. The fuel consumption was horrendous....... And it had a different gearbox everyday... The automatic shifts were not the same day after day

Fresh metal! What to expect from the upcoming Haval Jolion

Replacing the Chinese brand’s successful H2 and set for local launch later this month, the Haval Jolion has arrived in Australia and although pricing and specification is not yet confirmed, there are new images and a few clues in the antipodean offering to point the way to what cars en route to South African showrooms.

First off, the Jolion’s predecessor, the H2, was a vehicle we liked rather a lot, with its “plush cabin featuring myriad convenience items and absorbent ride quality,” so we have high hopes for its replacement. Moreover, because the Jolion is the second vehicle from the firm designed by former Land Rover and Ford designer Phil Simmons who is now heading up the Chinese outfit.

Overseas, the first models (pictured) will form part of a launch-edition run, limited to just a few hundred units in a choice of either mid-spec or flagship grades, with regular non-launch-edition cars – along with an entry-level grade – expected to arrive further down the road.

Sizing wise, like the H2 it replaces, the Jolion is a large vehicle, almost bordering on a mid-size SUV: measuring 4 472 mm long, 1 841 mm wide, and riding on a 2 700 mm wheelbase.

Although pricing is yet to be announced – based off its H2 predecessor, we’re expecting very competitive pricing, with only a nominal increase over the outgoing H2, which is priced from R294 900 for the City, to R354 900 for the top-spec Luxury.

GWM reportedly working on an even bigger bakkie to rival Ford F-150

GWM made an audacious move on the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger with the launch of its P-Series one-tonner in 2020. Now it seems that the Chinese carmaker is looking to take the fight to American pick-ups like the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado.

Citing Chinese media reports, Australian website CarAdvice says that this large-and-in-charge GWM is looking set to be revealed later in April. Although it is known to be on the “wish list” for the Aussie division, it’s still too early to say whether it would ever be destined for South Africa as demand for larger bakkies remains unproven.

The Australian publication reports that the new GWM contender is expected to be offered with a 3,0-litre engine that pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive system. The engine is rumoured to produce around 260 kW and 750 N.m of torque, although other details remain unclear at this stage.

GMW and Shelby to Collaborate on a Performance Bakkie?

The Chinese bakkie brand GWM is rumoured to have collaborated with North American muscle car specialists Shelby to create a special P-Series. Here's what we know so far.

According to a tweet sent out by Cars.co.za contributor Greg Kable, the vehicle will be called the Baja Snake. Set to be revealed at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show, the Baja Snake is rumoured to have a power increase, upgraded suspension, and far more aggressive bodywork.

We know GWM is keen to enhance its bakkie offerings and its prior concepts like the GWM Black Bullet Concept underlines its intentions of making cool lifestyle offerings.

The GWM P-Series was launched in South Africa just before the end of 2020 and impressions have been favourable thus far. We at Cars.co.za were impressed with the refinement, levels of equipment fitted and value for money. For the record, the GWM P-Series is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine with 120 kW and 400 Nm. This motor is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, sourced from ZF.

Return of the Beetle? GWM’s Ora brand previews retro EV

GWM’s sub-brand Ora is preparing to unleash a battery-powered retro hatchback that harks back to one of the most iconic small cars of the last century.

Set to be revealed at the upcoming Shanghai Motor Show, the Ora takes clear inspiration from the original Volkswagen Beetle, but with a few sprinkles of Chrysler PT Cruiser thrown in for good measure.

Apart from releasing these teaser images, the sub-brand is not telling us anything about its new creation just yet, but the Chinese carmaker has at least shown us inside the cabin. Here the retro vibes continue in full force, albeit with a modern touchscreen infotainment system and some swanky touches like turbine-style air vents and an abundance of silver and chrome trim.

Haval Jolion and H6 confirmed for global market launch

The Haval Jolion was revealed earlier this month as a replacement to the popular H2. The Chinese manufacturer has now confirmed that the Jolion, along with the new H6, will be receiving a global release.

GWM’s premium arm confirms that the Haval Jolion and H6 will be entering global markets by the second quarter of this year which means we should see it in South Africa within the next coming months. This will also be the first time that Haval updates its products for the international markets at the same pace as its domestic sphere.

What makes these two upcoming SUVs so much better than the ones they replace? Haval explains that the two cars make use of a brand-new L.E.M.O.N platform (an interesting name to choose for the architecture of a car) which uses high-intelligence and modular design principles. It aims to give the crossovers flexibility, high performance, high safety and light mass.

With this platform, Haval intends to develop models that fulfil SUV, sedan and MPVs ranging from the A0 to the D segment. With this flexible platform, the Jolion boasts a wheelbase of 2 700 mm with 26 different storage spaces for its inhabitants to use.

Went to go test drive the P-Series this morning...

i am really blown away by the strides GWM has made over the last 10 years.

Think I’m going to start the paperwork for a blue DLX 4x4 Auto. 47E0E300-C7EE-4127-8021-983F14FB7A2F.jpeg
