Haval Jolion: 4 Rivals It Needs to Beat

So, Haval’s new Jolion compact SUV has attracted notable attention since it launched on local soil recently but what other options should you be considering if you are shopping for a compact SUV in South Africa? Here are at least 4 key rivals that the Haval Jolion needs to beat to claim its share in this segment!

The new Haval Jolion launched in South Africa recently and the newcomer is poised to shake up a segment that has been growing rapidly to meet the increasing demand for practical compact SUVs.

This segment is broad with both budget-orientated products and more premium offerings available to buyers. New products such as the Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser and Nissan Magnite cater for buyers on the lower end of the budget spectrum (between R244 000 and R316 000) while more premium compact SUV products can command pricing up to almost R500k!

4 Rivals the Haval Jolion Needs to Beat

Volkswagen T-Cross

Hyundai Venue

Kia Seltos

Peugeot 2008

I test drove a Haval Jolion the other day. The "Super Luxury". I was EXTREMELY impressed by it! My only concern is long term fuel consumption. Might have to wait for a few longer term reviews and input from owners before I take the plunge. I currently have a Duster diesel and would really miss the fuel efficiency....

Also test-drove the Jolion, it has a thirsty engine. And the turbo lag is something that you will have to live with as well.

I'm hoping that it will improve once the engine has run in a bit. What did you think of it overall though? The turbo lag doesn't bother me too much. My current car has even worse lag

You can live with it definitely, turbo lag that is. Overall it's a decent car from a spec point of view. I would not buy one now, would give it a few months for them to iron out any potential issues that may arise.

If you thought the new Jolion looks good check out the all new H6, this is an Aussie (RHD) review so should hit SA fairly soon I would imagine.

Another Aussie review of the new H6

Seems to be quite good! Just the fuel consumption isn't particularly amazing. But getting around 10l/100km for a 2.0 turbo SUV isn't THAT bad I suppose.
Thats way better than my 14 to 15l/100 on the H6C. And the new engine is about 7 to 10kw more

But I must admit, I do not trust the onboard computer 100% for these figures. I record my usage on Fuelly;

Over the last 114 fuel ups, my average is 11.59l/100km, thats over my last 42159km.

Well, seems like the new H6 is a solid improvement over the H6C. Thanks for sharing
What manufacturers sometimes do is to strip features from a newer model and hope buyers don't notice, it usually works here in SA. The Chinese wanted to impress when they first lauched Haval so the first models were crammed with features, as consumers get used to the brand they could slowly strip it off until it's on par with the other overpriced mediocrity out there.

Example is the new Jolion, the facelifted H2 came standard with 6 airbags on all models, the new Jolion that's replacing it has gone back to the 2 airbags on lower models, reserving the 6 airbags for the much more expensive model.
