My wife and I love our Haval H2. The only thing I can fault it on at this stage is the crappy head unit. No RDS is just stupid for this day and age. Android Auto would also have been nice.

Is the fuel consumption as bad as everyone says?

Urban driving is rough on fuel consumption. So I would not recommend it as a city runabout. Longer cruises are much better on fuel consumption but then again that is true for most cars. Our city runabout is a Renault Sandero Stepway so the fuel consumption is not of concern, also I work from home which helps.

If you have any other questions, fire away.

Ha! My wife has the exact same car :p It's quite a lekker little thing.

I'd be quite interested in your average consumption per tank in the Haval?

I always thought that out of all the Chinese brands, GWM/Haval had the most appeal. But with the P-series and Jolion launched in SA, I really like them now. It seems they have stepped up a level. They are hopefully improving to a point where they become desirable, just like how it went with Hyundai/Kia.

Horror stories - they are there yes, but that is true for any other brand as well. Also thousands of happy owners that can't be ignored. Decent resale value and a sizable dealer network are not there yet, but nothing preventing that from improving too.

I was also against the idea of "buying a Chinese brand", but if I was in the market now for a new car, I would seriously consider them. We forget how much stuff is manufactured in China that we use every day - even iPhones :)

I do think the one thing they need to improve on is engine technology and fuel consumption, they do not compare favourable against their competitors. And the horrible English translation visible on the centre dash display for some functions need to be fixed

I will check the fuel consumption in the morning, unless the wife reset it today when she filled up.

I read somewhere that an aftermarket tune brings the fuel consumption down to a more acceptable level but then I guess you can kiss your warranty goodbye.

For exactly the same reason Renault Kwid & Datsun Go sold many units.

Price vs competitors.

I have read many horror stories about Haval both locally & Internationally.

The issues have been well documented. Haval behaved appalling when addressing customer concerns locally.

Each to their own but I do not have faith in them as a brand.

Maybe a few years from now but not currently.

I don't understand how some of you are selective with issues regarding Haval.

They are not transparent about fuel consumption figures either.

One of the local owners on YouTube commented on extreme fuel consumption figures & how poorly in general Haval handles issues.

Do what you want with your money but I won't touch this brand right now
I have read plenty horror stories about plenty manufacturers and their products, I have never been under the illusion that Haval doesn't have it's problems.

I have the H6C and have spoken about the fuel consumption several times. For me it's on about 12-13l/100km, which is terrible.

Haval SA won't budge and say the warranty will be void if you chip tune the car.
But if anyone is interest Dastek has a plug 'n play option for the Haval H6C, not sure about the H2. I think with dyno tuning and everything it was about R7,5k.

Are you going by the Cars figures or your own records, I don't trust the consumption figures on the car. They seem to be higher than reality.

BTW also H6C Lux

Good point. Car's figures, and it's mostly short town trips.

90% of my trips are town, with tons of speed bumps. My average is 11.63L/100km over the last 42500km. This is according to my fuel records using the Fuelly App.

Haval should buy Opel from Peugeot.

At least the engines, handling & design will see an improvement.

Managed to go check the fuel consumption today, 9.2l/100km. Getting beter the more kilometers we drive and that is with quite a bit of city driving.
