I just did my tax return... turns out I am getting R4K back from SARS (-4095). Oooh fok yesssss... gonna throw that money into my EasyEquities.

EDIT: I see the grand total is R4120, there's R24 from the previous tax year that got rolled over. Whew, this woman is so happy... all this unexpected coin is going straight into EasyEquities

I was auto assessed R9 900+- the usual
I submitted R89 000 medical self paid bills and did a calculation and it was R41 000 +- refund in total.
They then sent the settlement at R18 000 +- and the system wont allow you to question or ask for a recalculation?
R18 000 +- hits my account on Saturday
I sent them a email with the attachments and await their response.

Really...

Is there a limit to the amount you can claim per year on medical bills? Like 10% of annual or some ****?
 
This year I have not been auto assessed after been the last 2 years.

I've just logged into my efiling profile now and after clicking on the returns tab and inputting my tax number it shows that my last notice of assessment/tax return is dated 2023/07/02 and statement of account balance is R0.00.

Should I just keep checking every couple of days/wait for a sms or should it have been there by now?
 
I celebrate each year when I discover that I am only taxed on my salary and nothing else.

eFiling was virtually unusable yesterday - until 17:00, when most people probably left the office. Logged in at 17:05, and the system flew.

Completed my own return, as well as my parents'. Now I am just waiting for my rebate.
 
Beware of Hacking, there are those trying to become Users on your eFiling..(i.e. as if they are your tax consultant). I logged on to my eFiling after an sms that said SARS had accepted my invitation to a Dl4#@n1 as a user on my eFiling. I never invited anyone. Once logged on, there was another name under User "awaiting approval". Again, no one known to me. Who knows what these users can do re the payment & bank details on your profile. Respond and react to any of these messages. I have forwarded all this to the SARS fraud division. Also check why they may send a message that they are "verifying your bank details".....if you have not yourself ever changed that.

I received such an sms this morning. I chopped its head with an 🪓
