Have you got better results?

re: RPM's tests,

Has anyone done better than this with iBurst?

Ping ananzi 45 milli seconds up + down
Telkom download 130 k bytes /second
ADSL downstream 30 k bytes / second
ADSL upstream 15 k bytes / second
tcp/IQ download 55 k bytes /second
tcp/IQ upload 30 k bytes / second

I hope I managed to convert those that needed it to kilo bytes.

If you haven't done the tests yet, you have only one day left.

Did the tests, but certainly not a real indication of the speed available to iBursters.

It happens when you sit 6kms from the tower, in a dip...

i hate to be a spoil sport but this is why I did not participate in this round of tests, I find that the means of testing isn't accurate at all.

For instance I experience the internet with multithreading but I can't run those tests with multithreading, it obviously seems to use the Telkom ADSL test, which is worrying because it shows the tests were planned by people with very little network or programming experience. You see the telkom test is just done with java script, it initiates a simple timer then you download what you think is 500KB (a long html comment) then after that you get the java script that stops the timer and works out the speed... there are two problems with this, firstly the data you download after the javascript timer is started is less than 500KB so it stands to reason the results are off and secondly because it is a large html page firefox will download it in 4 parts minimum if network pipelinin is set to true. So this means that last bit of javascript can be executed before you have downloaded the entire page.

I fear the same thing will happen with this round of testing that happened last time, that is a clear bias towards adsl, which is fine, more people use adsl... but it does not give the test credibility.

The testing methods will obviously favour lower bandwidth connections, thats just because its easier to hit 30KB/s all the time than it is to his true 1mbit all the time, without multithread. If iburst can get 80KB/s on a single thread with the tcpIQ test for example it will be weighed less than adsl 386 (or whatever it is) because it will get 30KB/s all the time, so in the end myadsl 384 looks more stable because nobody factors in the fact that it is too slow to need multithread anyway.

Couple that with the fact you're looking for more iburst testers a day before the tests stop, that just shows there isn't a large enough sample to rate iburst anyway.

And even though iburst is faster than 1mbit adsl it will come up shorter in these tests... my prediction is it will be adsl 192, 384, 512 then 1mbit and then iburst and lastly sentech in that order.

Wakey-wakey - I have been looking for more iBurst testers since day 1.

Hi guys sorry I had to get a new ID as this system had problems...

http://www.tcpiq.com/tcpIQ/LineSpee...ountryId=196&ConnectionId=14469&UserId=172620

is my testing for today...

Last 24 hours Last 7 days
Number of tests 2 2
Download speed 80.84 KBits/sec
10.11 KBytes/sec 80.84 KBits/sec
10.11 KBytes/sec
Upload speed 10383.18 KBits/sec
1297.90 KBytes/sec 10383.18 KBits/sec
1297.90 KBytes/sec
DNS Speed 20329.00 mSec 20329.00 mSec
Latency 0.00 mSec 0.00 mSec

does that mean I'm getting my full 1Mbps connection

this doesn't seem accurate at all tho... we are using iburst at our company as a temperory solution before we get the leased line from telkom.
There are about 30 users on this connection as well as a mail server...

that is far from accurate, it must be.

according to that test you have extremly slow download speed similar to dial up and a insanely high upload speed that would mean you were on a 10mbit connection

Firefly, I got the same type of results when I had my own proxy server running. Do you have something like that setup?

Slimothy, I'm very sure that RPM is open to ANY suggestions, however, it's a bit late now.

Drop him an email and offer your suggestions for the next round of testing - get involved with your input.

Yeah thise tests were giving me something in the order of 224kbps when downloads I was doing were consistently in the 70-80kB/s mark.
