I would "have my say", if anyone could point me towards a case where "having your say" changed guavament's stance.

This is just to tick the boxes so they can say "we asked". And then do whatever the f*** they want.
they did the same thing with the land expropriation bill, even though most commenters were against, they felt they knew better and went ahead anyways.

The cheapest method of tax collection is via vat, add 5 percent to vat and scrap all other taxes. Use money wisely people of the government.
No that is an exercise in futility, suggesting that govt will ever use money wisely.

If there is one thing that I have learned in my 30+ years on this rock:

If you are not in the system, keep it that way!

These numpties have no idea how to regulate and check these proposed changes, and all they see is money rolling in.

They will also not listen to reason or ANY public input, so why bother.

In the end, we all know this is going the etoll way, so why draw attention to yourself by adding comments....

For convenience, I wonder if they could not just include it on my eToll bill. Makes it simpler to discard these accounts together.
We also save trees by consolidating all the stupid bills the government comes up with!

One may suspect that the majority of the 24% paying are business's that do not display SABC on their installations.

Fairly certain that the lack of content & maladministration is the main reason for any issue SABC can conjure up. The public are tired of paying for corrupt practices & I don't think any white paper is going to make people in general enthusiastic about a further fleecing.

Can the populace trust the reports coming from the maladministration?

An API call sounds rather logical however how I'd surmise they need to forgo some of their annual fee to pay the development / maintenance costs of their integrations on the different streaming platforms, which they will not pay.

They should focus on content, digitally overdue "transformation" ensuring they tie the licenses to their media boxes or platforms. If they cannot accomplish those two things then gracefully exit which will atleast elimate the maladministration.

No way. Another dead horse being propped up by tax payer money iso fixing the real problem. I haven't turned my TV on in more than 10 year to watch any terrestrial broadcasts, took my aerial down 2 years ago.

Salaries are way too high for the country, should be halved across the board as has happened in many private companies.

Why? Netflix is not part of SABC. SABC does not contribute in any way or form. This is a separate service which you pay for, as with the fibre and internet provider. Stop stealing because this is what it is: theft. Expecting us to “pay” you for what? If SABC was run properly, and we were not forced to watch re-runs and stupid programs there would not be a need for services like Netflix. No no way in hell am i willing to donate any amount to benefit the overstaffed SABC.

I assume that the millions who diligently paid their TV licenses every year are going to be exempt from paying in the future if they have no TV/computer/cellphone?

Note : if you send an email, note that your subject line needs to be

They are treating the symptom not the cause. Use a legislative hammer instead of addressing the problem

What is happening:
Problem: Income low?
Solution: Force additional income. Legislate forced license payments.

Should be:
Problem: Income low?
Solution: Balance expenses to income, reduce expenses:
1) Staff travel, only pay economy flights. Do not compensate vehicle parking costs.
2) Cut the excessive amounts of leave given to SABC employees, sick leave especially. Reduce to min required by law. Reduce annual leave. Suspend option of annual leave cash payouts.
3) Cut any extra employee benefits until financial stability is restored.
4) Reduce labor costs - offer staff a choice , either accept a pay cut (Bigger cut the higher the salary) and frozen increases (Get to keep your job, help the company turn around), or take a VSP with generous compensation. Refuse to take either, get retrenched with min required compensation. You decide your fate in the company.
5) Attract viewers by offering viewers what they want to watch, get rid of the local content % enforcement.
6) Complete digital migration and switch to pay to view model. Pay gate will ensure license enforcement. Only those who want to watch, will pay and watch. Operate as a business and not a state service. State service no longer works because they assume they deserve tax payer money. When tax payers believe they do not.
7) After the company starts turning a profit, introduce performance based increases, performance is reviewed by manager and 3rd party, otherwise only a at inflation increase is approved.

Etc etc etc... Many steps can be taken. But are not even considered. Politically connected SABC Executives and unions will always block alternatives. They want a magic bullet to allow them to continue the status quo.

Meanwhile every Rand given to bail out SABC is a rand that taken from other more beneficial services. Housing, Health care, Law enforcement, infrastructure maintenance.

Good news, South Africa! Thank you for raising your voices against this proposal. The Department has just informed us that the deadline has been extended to February 2021. Spread the word, submit your comment and let the Communications Department that, "hell to the no."

If the SABC simply retrenched the sloth and lard working in its trenches, there would be no push to this extent.

Well you see, you don't need a TV to stream VOD. so basically if this is enforced, you'd have to buy a TV licence for your phone and computer too, anything with a screen and network connection.
So sabc can sukc it

i'll willingly get a tv licence when they can prove that they can run the sabc properly. at the moment they're making huge losses and paying board members millions in salaries and bonuses. no thanks, i'll hang on to my money.
I will gladly pay if they can prove that they add any value when I stream content, all of which I pay for already i.e. infrastructure, ISP, streaming provider.
