MSM is already doing that.

This is an ANC idea, just another looting channel for connected cadres. **** them all. They cannot create anything, they can only steal.
and now the criminals want to steal our Netflix, but they dont have the brainpower necessary to actually do this,
so they talk about a Netflix tax that is worthless, and causes the few overseas companies invested in SA, to say f** this sh*t

Why? What role does the state broadcaster currently fulfil that couldn't be done just as well by having additional commercial broadcasters?
Public service mandate, accountability to parliament, driving national interest. SABC also has an objective to not only inform but educate as well and in all the languages. Privates don't have that responsibility or are required by law to do that.

None of which justify the existence of SABC in its current form.

Then they can stream it... no need to broadcast it. People who want to watch SABC can then be charged for it.

propaganda for one,
It is true that the SABC broadcasts cANCer party propaganda to a wide audience and reaches rural areas where cellular network coverage is nonexistent.

But the EFF and others have arguably used Twitter far more effectively for spreading propaganda, only falling short in areas where cellular coverage is problematic and low literacy areas (for text as opposed to video).

Do you live in Cloud Cuckoo land?
First ask yourself that question.

Doing a poor job of fulfilling that mandate under current conditions. Also doesn't mean that private broadcasters won't do any of it.

Rather better internet penetration and cost. Ironically the SABC is still hogging the spectrum that will enable that 10 years later. Whenever your communist overlords speak of what the country needs it's really what they need.

NO they are not. The SABC has been ready to migrate and has everything ready to complete the migration.
They would only be too glad to be able to dump analogue transmissions IF they were allowed to move forward with the project.
Blame the ANC masters for the delays. not the public broadcaster.

Whether it's their fault or not I don't really care. Doesn't change the end result that valuable spectrum is being used by a useless public broadcaster.

And the SABC is partly to blame for changing their stance on set top encryption mid sentence. Somehow I don't think any party involved in this can be said to be blameless for the delays.

Out of interest I wonder if it would be possible to digitally emigrate? You can do it financially so why not digitally?
