Opportunistic and parasitic. They should convert to a paid service, like DSTV and Netflix. - i.e. level the playing field. Then those that want to watch SABC can pay for it. Most of are not interested in the rubbish provide and refuse pay for it.

indeed.

sabc should charge a subscription service, they can even call it a ..."tv licence" ...

What I would like answered is, how many people actually watching SABC are paying TV licenses. A very large part of the population watches SABC daily. Why aren't they collecting TV licenses from them.

Yes. I can see Netflix incorporating this shithole country's bullshit requirement into their subscription process. Are you an ANC cadre, or just a bit slow?
lol, don't be an ass.

My dude. Netflix will do it because they don't really care about championing the moral and ethical concerns of the citizens of the country. They'll do it, because the government will make it the law and like good corporate citizens, they'll oblige. They're still going to make their money. You and half the people here on MyBB forums may "stick it to the man" and go back to piracy or media-over-VPN, but most of the people out there? They'll want their Netflix and they'll suck it up. And it will cost Netflix nothing except some development time and the cost of maintaining an interface.

And SABC API down? "Sorry, error code DILLIGAF, please try again later." License address and Netflix address don't match? Mismatching name on credit card and license? "Sorry SABC, error code DILLIGAF, go sort out your issues."

You think Amazon gave a second thought when the government told them to charge VAT on products shipping to South Africa? And if you think a massive revolt against Netflix is going to make any difference to Netfix, you might want to think again. These international companies aren't going to come here and save us from our government's stupid decisions. That's our job.

Oh puhleez. Or they could just not give a fck in implementing all these new APIs and give SA and guavamint the middle finger.

What happens if ISPs are forced to cooperate with blocking by law, can we expect that?

I doubt it. Even SABC keep admitting they can't practically win these arguments technically due to factors like those in townships being unwilling / unable to pay the license.
So just more fuss as far as I can see, getting more to pay out of fear.

What a sick joke they have become. Now they want to include something they don't broadcast in their lisense fees - so that they can grab more money to pay their exorbitant salaries and bonuses for doing as little as possible. They are just another failed SOE in the midst of all the national and provincial departments and the ANC run municipalities. The real question is how long can this criminally run state continue.

Pretty much forever. Until the so-called "voter" does something about not electing incompetence, we are screwed.
