:mad:Hi there, I had a decoder installed last week and it took 2 days.
Eventually the approved installer took it back to MultiChoice where it was exchanged for a new one.
Anyone else experienced this?

My DAD has had the same experience.

I will hold on to my PVR SD like gold.

I'm also considering an HD PVR, I thought that these problems had been resolved.

Anyone else have problems ?

With ANY consumer electronics device you're going to have the occasional dud.

Mine has been rock-solid barring the software issues, most of which have been sorted out now.

My HD PVR has finally overcome its teething problems...I hope.
I had my unit installed 2 days after I bought it and from the 1st press of the pause button it didn't work. It used to pause but would not play again, you would have to press TV or change the channel for it to get off pause. And it wouldn't record anything. I even formatted the harddrive twice.
Eventually after 27 (I'm exagerating) calls to MC I was still stuck with the same problem so I just set it to record 3 arbitary programs and went to bed, fuming.
In the morning the 1st recording only recorded 13 minutes of a 1 hour program but the other 2 were all there, and pause and play and rewind were all fine again. How nice.

Next problem: That night i set the harddrive to sleep after an hour and in the morning the PVR was dead. Tried everything again with no luck. I unpugged and replugged the power cord 34 times and still nothing. When i reconnect the power cable the unit shows "boot" on the display then goes off again.
So after MC told me to take in my brand new decoder for a replacement I thought HELL NO! At that price they must come fetch it and give me a new one on the spot. (I stay in Nelspruit so its 5 days before I would get a replacement and the unit was bought in JHB).
So after work I disconected every cable to the back and when I reconnected them it was 100%.
Should something that costs almost 5 Grand, with installation, come with so much drama? (no pun intended)

My parents purchased a HD PVR against my recommendation, and after around 2 months, the thing seems to finally be working as it should. Turns out some codes supplied by Multichoice were incorrect, which led to some anomalies regarding recording, the menu system, etc.
The most frustrating part was that these issues were sporadic in nature, which meant tracing them to a specific source was quite tricky.

Kang, first thing to do is make sure you have the latest software. The newer software has resolved the going into standby issue but many users just set that option to "Never" anyway
