Well lets see, you already have the SD-PVR, like I did. So you have a dual LNB for it. Get a 2 X 6 splitter (costs about R600 - R700), that will split your two lines to 6, No installer necessary. You do have to take your SD-PVR and new HD-PVR to a multichoice agent to setup the extraview and probably upgrade your SD-PVR's smartcard (I had to). So my total cost to setup was R3600.

I have had one freeze in this month (and thats because the wife and I were pushing remotes simultaneously). It is quite slower than the SD-PVR. But not a train smash. I hardley even touch the SD-PVR now to be honest, its routed through to my bedroom and my other lounge. Cant remember when last TV2 was used on the SD-PVR. The bonus of being able to record two channels at the same time is cool. And the HD is nice - even though its only 720. Very crisp and clear... love it.

It was resolved long ago. People talk about it because they heard it from a friend, who heard it from a friend, who read it on a forum somewhere. The only issues now are new HD content (will be here soon) and installers that don't know what they are doing.

Most issues have been resolved through firmware upgrades. I agree with Quantam that proper installation is imperative!!!!

The reality is there are issues....but its not the same for everyone! Yes, mine has only a handful of bugs. Dont even have half the problems others report on it...so ja, it really just depends. Maybe Im one of the lucky ones? Who knows...but ours works great...just needs a reboot every 3-4 weeks...no biggy at all :p

I have noticed that seems to get less responsive over that time frame... is this why you reboot?

The reality is, that those issues are mostly due to bad installations and poor quality cable, switches, dishes and LNB's.

I have no problems with signal quality / reception and such. Only have to get used to the slower that SD-PVR menu, info bar etc.... Otherwise like I've pointed out, its really damn nice. Having xtraview is fantastic. The DSTV on demand does not bother me at the moment, all of my scheduled recordings work just fine!

Rubbish, it's so unacceptably slow in operation it's a joke. Everything from boot to picture/sound, selecting menus etc. Absolutely nothing to do with those items you mentioned. Poor firmware, s'all.

I work with them daily in many different setups (Communal, SatCR, Multiswitch). I have not found them to be unacceptably slow...

I skipped the SD PVR, because I had just bought a DualView when it came out.

So have been using a DVD recorder in the meantime.

But would like to get a HD PVR - so what do I do now, wait for the new model ???

Maybe you have just gotten used to the slowness :p Try an 1100 for a change, it should be on par with that.

Apparently the same Pace model works properly in Australia, pointing toward firmware issues in the DSTV derivative.

Personally, I would wait and see what the new one brings.

The UEC HD-PVR is functionally going to be exactly the same as the Pace (they will be 100% the same). No reason to wait.

Functionally yes... but hardware quality? I think the Pace might be better. Will only know when we test the UEC, when it is finally released.

I would expect it to be better seeing it's a later generation design, are you saying they licensed the hardware design from Pace? I don't know, retaining a PATA drive? Doesen't make sense. If they do a good job on the firmware it should a least be functionally faster than the dog slow Pace.
