My HD PVR is worse after the upgrade.

Whenever I turn it on there is no sound I have to perform a full reset to get sound again.

The remote also doesn't work for about 10 mins after turning the machine on.

Other users have also reported this. Monochoice states (on the DSTV forum) that you can just change to another channel, and then back to the channel you want, and the sound should be restored. Not an ideal solution, but until MCA sorts out the software again you may have to live with this annoyance

I have not had this problem though.

My problem is that my Ellies remote blaster no longer functions reliably .. making it annoying to try to switch channels / adjust decoder volume / etc on the LCD in my bedroom.

The Ellies transmitter unit is in the bedroom with the receiver at the decoder downstairs. All worked fine with thsi set-up prior to the upgrade.

I don't know if it is just co-incidence, and maybe the Ellies unit is kaput, but I suspect Monochoice has altered something with their latest upgrade. Getting them to admit it is the challenge!

Multichoice - you are a DISGRACE! Shame on you...shame, shame, shame.

How dare you release an alpha product onto the market and not advertise this fact. Your choice to do business this way will one day be your downfall.

And to the loyal owners of HD PVRs: Do not be 'thankful' or 'grateful' for this update. This is what a finished product should do. It is not some kind of favour they are doing for you.

I have this problem as well but changing channels does seem to resolve the issue.

Overall the upgrade is a big improvement and once they fix the remaining glitches I think it will be a great system.

Now for more HD channels please, especially on Action.

My biggest problem is random freezes when I am watching recorded programs. I think I need to take it in though and I have to finish watching all my recorded movies first.

HD PVR update positively received... except on the forums at MyBroadband... I don't think you guys get excited about anything besides complaining.

Actually Multichoice was quite open that they were releasing a product that they weren't entirely happy with.

They said that they wanted to get the service launched for the Beijing Olympics and that because of this the quality of the software wasn't where they wanted it to be. They said that they would be fix the software in due course and while I would have liked it to be done sooner they have delivered.

Now all they need to deliver is series recording and automatic rerecording of failed programs and fix the EPG so it is accurate and I will be more than happy.

Exactly. Everyone in the industry knew (well, the reputable guys)... and I certainly told all end users that I came across about the issues, but most of them still wanted the HD.

Yes they released it early for the Olympics and they said it was rushed. I would rather have it released early with all the problems than release HD channel only now.

I disagree... Having ONE HD channel is a joke, while virtually all the rest are still at 4:3 PAL. So you have to buy a wide screen HD display to watch one channel - the others are stretched or boxed to fit on the widescreen display. I can't believe that the other channels aren't at least widescreen yet.

True you have a point, one HD channel is a joke. Don't how it all works with costing but they should have more dedicated HD channels. I didn't even notice that the other channels are stretched on my LCD. Will have a look.

For more HD channels, they are going to change the way they broadcast the signal. 8PSK instead of QPSK. Rome wasn't built in a day. This is new technology all over the world.

I don't have an HD PVR, my in-laws has one and their PVR/Remote descyncs, meaning you HAVE to reboot the PVR. EPG freezes, recordings miss. I'd like to see how much of that has actually improved...

...until then I'll stick to my SD PVR thank you very much.

/me wonders how it can be multichoice if they are effectively the only choice?

I have completely lost the ability to utilise DD 5.1 since the update - all other sound streams work fine except the surround sound stream. Have logged it with the engineers who are investigating, but am still disappointed.

I'm sorry, the advertising never EVER stated that this was an unstable, unfinished product. No sir, they made a very clear effort to market HD on a dedicated channel even, talking about the brilliant picture quality and sound etc. Never once did i hear "oh, but the decoded is buggy and you can't complain if it is of poor quality".

Only in South Africa are we grateful when a company gives us good service or a decent product. It is never the norm.
