Hi, I please need help! I'm looking for a HDD enclosure type multimediaplayer to play mp3's through my hi-fi.

I've read though through a hundred web pages, but can't find clear info anywhere. I basically need the following -

Play digital format music, and be able to see info on tv e.g. song title etc. (I think that means ID3 tags?) Also want to to be able to create playlists on the fly. Unit must preferably have a remote control

I'm not really interested in watching movies with it, basically only for music.

I've discovered www.techdigital.co.za, with a wide range of options, but I'm finding very little info and reviews on the web for any of their products - don't know if it is obscure or wrong model numbers or what.

Here is a link to one that seems OK, with reviews found (Vizo Opera Portable HDD Enclosure & Multimedia Player) -

http://www.techdigital.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=PMP-101

Does anyone know anything about it, ease op operation, difficulties etc?

Please - any advice/recommendation on what type of equipment/brand to get would be very helpful!

Thanks

The Vizo Opera Portable HDD Enclosure & Multimedia Player (PMP-101) looks nice, but it only supports Fat32. So u'll need to format the 2.5" 80gig or 120gig, or 200gig into 32gb segments. *on a 200gig drive u'll make 7 drives, 6x32gig and one 7-8gig drive*

Have a look at Playtime Media players. The HV0102A also supports 720p and 1080i, Supports Fat32 and NTFS. Doesn't have the VGA output for Normal PC-monitors tho, but has Component output for HD-tv's, and also Composite out (most of the LCD monitors has a input for Composite input)

HV0102A is around R700-R800 i think at JavaCafè/VivaCafe , HV0103A is the same as 102A except has a Front LCD 3cmx3cm. The 105A has DVI output and Lan features. But i'm not sure on the pricing on the 105A if i had to guess, prolly around R1700

As far as I can see the 32gb partitioning is a limit for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only and it is one created by microsoft. From my reading the maximum partition size for fat32 is actually 127.53 gigabytes - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table#FAT32

FAT32 does however have a maximum files size allowance of about 4gb.

Thought so because I've got an 80GB external drive I plug into my DVD player that I partitioned as FAT32.

Thanks Napalm, the Playtime player looks pretty cool, I'm definitely considering it! Just a pity that none of these player have decent reviews and consumer reviews like the ones on Amazon and CNet.

Big thanks for all the advice! It's the first time I've actively used a forum and it is brilliant!

Bought the playtime (Zioncom) multimedia player and it works like charm. Wife digs it! :D

Congatulation, enjoy:)

I found the mvix sucks for mp3s. The playlist features are very poor. You basically have to create the playlist on your pc and then copy it onto the player. There was no random play. Videos worked well though. Not sure what the new wireless one is like.
