Headphone + speakers at the same time

My dad is struggling with his hearing so I need to find a solution that allows him to watch TV with headphones while at the same time my mom can listen normally. Anyone have some suggestions? I assume some TV's would allow a dual output but looking through the settings on their Samsung it doesn't appear that theirs does.

They use DSTV and watch stuff off a USB stick.

It should not be too difficult to alter the headphone socket so that it no longer breaks contact with the speakers.
