People also don't understand their personal stories are anecdotal and that we have actual statistics for who is more at risk.
It's the same argument people make when the crime stats come out. Rates are shown to be in decline but people still aren't going to feel safe because the stats are meaningless to your personal case.

Just declining rates doesn't mean you are safe. It means more safe than the previous year, but that could still be at risk.

People habitually quoted the 30/50 murders a day as sign they will be murdered soon as they step out the door. Those same people see no problem taking precautions against a pathogen that kills a few hundred people a day. How does that work?

A lot of the articles lately seem to push a vaccination angle.

Well, sounding like a broken record here, but I have had issues in getting vaccinated, human-made system issues. Not going to repeat everything I moaned about, Monday will be the last time I am going to try and get vaccinated without the voucher-code SMS. Yes, I have tried to communicate, but all I am told is to wait. Unless I book through Dischem or Discovery which the nearest centre is at Parow and N1 City respectively… It is absurd, to expect people to travel that distance given where I am located, and then to shame those who aren't vaccinated at every possible opportunity to get vaccinated.

From my standing, the holier than thou stance being taken is stupid, and Game’s contribution is nothing less than discriminatory. Tomorrow will be 30 days since I have registered on EDVS, but no voucher no vaccine is the message I have gotten at every given vaccination centre in my area.

Yes, I am unhappy.

There is probably a campaign to highlight the positives of vaccines in various media. It is dangerous to deliberately suppress any negatives. But the anti vaxxers don't need much to get going.

This type of reporting also happened post 9/11 with all that embedded stuff. And even then the American media especially were all unquestioning of the reasons Americans went to war and went very welcoming of attempts to ask uncomfortable questions.

The suppression will lead to fringe loons finding space. Though for vax, they are enabled by some media orgs in the right-wing.

I recall that so well. I lived in the UK at the time and also spent time in the USA. If you dared question the rush to war with Iraq you were called unpatriotic, even treasonous. And any major country opposed to that war - especially France, but also Germany and Russia - were absolutely lambasted by the US and UK media.

  • A married father of two young boys died shortly before he could receive his first vaccination.
Yet the boys are 18 and 8? So where are the two young boys? Also overweight is an issue and at 46 you can have a heart attack if you're overweight. I knew a 30 year old who had a stroke, just because it's not common doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
I know a 27 year old who had a heart attack. (and died)

I think many don't understand what overweight and healthy is....

Healthy but overweight? That's a bit of a contradiction. I would argue that if you are overweight you are by definition unhealthy.
Its not actually.

Many people carry extra weight but eat well and exercise.

The problem is that many of us will live very unhealthy lives but then only have a small boep.

Weight is not a great metric for health and underweight can be just as bad.

I don't think I was worried about a stroke at 30 but can easily happen if you have an underlying condition.

Faark.
I'm 45. weighing 145 kg now.
I have Asthma as well.
My mother is a heavy diabetes sufferer, injections twice a day kind. so i probably have some genetic markers for this
My dad had heart attack at 32, he died 59 years old, after complication form his second triple bypass. my cholesterol and blood pressure ain't toot sweet, but still in OK range.

I was dead to the world for three weeks. Few evening when i prayed to just come fetch me, but only for the trip upstairs. If i am going downstairs, gimme a minute...
And here i am still.

People do not want to understand, this thing hits everybody in different ways.
Every shop test for fever, i had no fever, not once. The delta variant do not give you a fever. I had no dry cough either, started out with sinus pressure. dry heaving cough came later.
Keep yourself safe, no one outside will do it for you.
You weigh 145?!
Sweet Jesus...

Out of interest, what and how much do you eat to get that much weight?

The article doesn't say so, but obesity with covid is a fairly well known risk. A doctor who treats covid patients told me he considers obesity to be even more of a risk factor than age.
I second this. Without doubt, the majority of people that I've known of who died from COVID were overweight. My bike has seen good use the last year or so.
